problems starting 02Sunfire after 6 weeks

I went to start my 02 Sunfire (2.2 L / 5 speed manual transmission) after 6 weeks of having it sit idle.

The car will start, but it obviously sputters. At first it would not reverse, but after a loud thunk it did reverse.

The check engine light began blinking and the ETS light came on steady. The car would not accelerate for the first few minutes, but then the warning lights all went off and everything worked well -- including acceleration. I drove it for approx. 60 km with no problems.

I thought everything was fine and I would just have to change the oil and filter tomorrow morning. However, when I went to drive the car again this afternoon, the same warning lights came back on and the car again wouldn't accelerate. I immediately parked it in the driveway, and when I got out of the car I could faintly smell something burning (like rubber?).

Any ideas? Thanks for the help!

Check your battery for proper voltage. take a look at your engine compartment and make sure nothing got heat stressed, water damage or any other damage that might occure from fluids sitting idol. Disconnect your battery and reconnect it after about 20 mins. Check your fluid levels and so on. If you get a flashing check engine light again, I would take it to have the codes read before it goes away. That may point you in a direction. Also, where did you have it parked? On the street, in a driveway, parking garage, grass, dirt? Also, after 6 weeks, you may want to get some new gas in it. Sounds to me like your computer is flipping out or something and may need a reset.
