Help: Friends car gas smell and runs rough

My sister-in-law has a mirage. It is a 1999, 4 door.

From what I understand, she smells gas when she gets in the car. While it is running, it roughs rough and sputters. Please note, this is hearsay through another person. Two shops have said there is nothing wrong.

Any thoughts? My best thought is that she needs to have a fuel pressure test done to the car to see if there is a leak.

If most shops said there is nothing wrong with it then, there's probably nothing wrong with it. When I last had this issue it was a fuel module I think, a 600 dollar repair. Sometimes it can be something as simple as tightening the gas cap though lol.

Not sure about the mechanic's though. Diagnosing something like this is very difficult, especially without a computer code to help point you it the right direction. I am having a similar experience with a 96 minivan.

Any other ideas?
