This just kinda struck me as odd seeing as I live in a town of less than 400 and the surrounding towns are not much bigger. And it bothers me to see where the moral of some of the people in this world is going.

Last night about 2 a.m. In Lumpkin Ga, a super small town my GF is from, they had a problem down at one of the clubs thats in the "projects'. This is not an uncommon thing as it happens all the time. Well this time it was a bit different. I know alot of people that work on the FD, EMS, and PD there. I'm very good friends with a few of them.
Well, after the chief of PD (good friend) and one other PD officer went to the club and supposedly got things calmed down, about 30 minutes later 2 crazy men with guns burst into the PD and shot the chief, the PD officer, one of the EMT's who is also a good friend.
The EMT was shot in the leg severing a main artery and he actually died from loss of blood, but only for a moment and was brought back shortly after by the OTHER EMT's that were on duty. (aint that some shit)
THe chief was shot, I'm not sure where, but is still in critical conditon at the hospital. The other PD officer was shot in his right eye and it came out the back of his head. He's still alive, but they don't expect him to hold on much longer. The main gunman was shot dead at the scene, and the other escaped, but was just captured not long ago. 3 hours later, the other deputy was still at the scene and was shot, only grazing him and not hurting him. He's fine.
What kind of people does it take to attack a public safety building and shoot the people who work every day to make your town safer and for the ones who work to save your life.

Me being on the VFD and sometimes helping the EMT's, That bothers me.....ALOT.

Damn Man! I personally, can't stand guns. And the guy that they caught that isn't dead should be hung by his toes and shot at it but not leathally. See how he likes it.... don't bother wasting your time with him in a penetenary(spelling) just get rid of him. Even with time in Jail he'll re-offend.

Got an update just a little bit ago from our sheriff whichw as helping the investigation.

The chief got shot in the cheek and is doing okay. They'll remove the bullet today sometime. The EMT just got out of surgery and is doing well also. They will not have to amputate his leg and they expect a good recovery. Now the deputy, he lost his eye that was shot, but they are expecting him to do well also. So thank the lord everyone will recover.

I'm really glad to hear they're going to make it. As a retired Air Force medic and CERT (Community Emer. Resp. Team) member with Sacramento Metro FD who also works in a level 1 trauma center I can especially appeciate how bad something like tis is. This sort of thing happens a lot here in Sacto and I agree that it really makes you wonder about why this has to happen. Your friends will also be in my prayers as well.

Being on the Bicknell FD and a Reserve on the Bicknell PD and working for Knox County EMS.....kinda makes you wonder if it's all worth it doesn't it...

My prayers will go out for these people.

That's why these 3 strike rules are such bullshit. The people who did this should probably already have been in jail. I am so dead set on establishing a new death penalty of a 12 gauge, a shell, and a wall. Or lets even go meidevil and bring out the guillatine or public hangings.

Good to hear the update,

Being a hero will always be worth it even if it seems like no one does. They do care, some of them just don't know it yet.

Sorry to here of the unrest in your area - but glad to hear they'll survive and recover. I prefer to believe there are "wack" people in all walks of life and community sizes. Post Office rampages and school rampages - its much the same.

We have too many people who think of themselves first and always - we have too many people who want to make a statement of some sort or kind. Whats important - is for every "wack" person created by drugs, mental imbalance, or attention need - there are many dozens of better people. The ratios really haven't changed much in the last several hundred years - but we have alot more people - so the "wack" people seem like bigger quantities than ever before. They come in all shapes, sizes, races, religions. Its tough to do when you live thru something like this - but I can tell you from personal experience - its always worth looking at the positive side and all the good people. Don't let the "wack" people make you different. Something positive will come from something so negative - you just don't know where or when.

If y'all have been watching the news at all the last day or so, it actually made NATIONAL news!! Thats unusual for such a small town, escecially here close to me. Everyone that was shot is in good condition now, and the suspects are in jail. THe one that did the shooting had just been released and was on parole....they sent him to the crime lab to see what all kinds of narcotics he had in him. I saw the crime scene, and there was dope all over the ground.

Heres a link from the Columbus, Ga paper.

Sorry to hear, hope everyone pulls through ok. This world is one strange place.

By the way...I appreciate everyone who works so hard to try and make our lives safe, so there is still hope.

The title of the thread is "What's the matter with the world today?" Personally - I think we are deluged with media telling us all the bad - and we don't hear about all the good. As a result - my answer is - "We aren't told about the good things nearly enough - and are told about the bad things - way too much. We hear little about justice and compassion - we hear much about injustice and avarice".

That is true too... This was just something very unusual to happen around here, I mean these towns where I live are only 10 miles apart from each other and everyone knows everybody...ya know. Like Mayberry. It's just something I'm used to hearing about/seeing on the news as happening in larger cities, not these little country towns. I guess that gues to prove that it can happen anytime, anywhere. I love to hear good news myself, and your right, don't get to hear enough of it.

Shooting EMTs and cops should stay in video games

Don't mean to piss ANYONE off okay.....but I don't even think it has a place in video games.

Here's a little formula I am beginnnig to understand:

Alcohol+Guns+Ego = Tragedies^2

I hate to hear about that stuff. NOw I have kids and stuff. I was ina house that was riddles by a driveby once, and it's not fun. I still cringe when I remember how close I came to being shot. Just stupid punks with no respect or dignity were trying to "scare" us and darn near killed 5 of us.

I hope your friends come out OK. I hope even more that they dont quit their line of work as I have tremendous respect for them.

Not many people realize how potentially dangerous our jobs in the law enforcement community are until a tragedy such as this occurs. I am a municipal officer in a town of roughly six thousand and I'm constantly aware of the danger, you have to learn to think and live tactically, 24/7. Missouri has lost three state troopers this year, two because people rubberneck through accident scenes, and one was asassinated by a scroatbag that he'd busted. All we can do is hope that society will get better, recognize what law enforcement does everyday, and remember law enforcement in our prayers.

How many times have you went to work with the main objective in your mind being to make it home alive to your family at the end of your shift? A lot of brave young men and women in blue do that very thing every day...

Just food for thought.
