Well, A while back I started a thread about CAI. I finally bit the bullet and bought one. Instead of paying $200.00+ for a K&N, I bought an intake from Chrome Intakes off of E-bay. Shipping, handling and ins. included it costed me $47.00. So far, i've noticed a 2.6 mpg increase and took 1.038 seconds off my 0-60. I can't wait to get the exhaust done. :evillol: I'll attempt to post some pics in a few minutes.

tell us more about what you bought off Ebay ...

how much did you have to fabricate? did you have to drill holes for IAT? grommets? did you fab any mounts or heat sheilds? describe the connection to the throttle body? how was the fit of the pipe you received? overall looks? rattling? sagging? any problems with the MAF placement? quality of filter that came with it? how have you measured mpg and 0-60?

Here's the pics of my "Chrome Intakes" cold air intake.
drdd, read my first post on the performance and mpg gains. It took me about 40 minutesto install it and the only fabrication involved was to bend the bracket to mount it. The port is already in it and so is the rubber gromet. Couldn't have been any easier. Well it could have been a little cooler outside, it was 105 that day.

So does it really increase gas mileage and or performance or are they just a joke?

I was wondering if it'd be worth it to throw one on my 96 blazer with 168,500 miles...

Like I said in my first post, i'm getting 2.6 more mpg with it.It also sounds cool. :iceslolan

I'm really thinking about getting one but I'm just not sure if it's worth it, especially since my blazer has so many miles on it (well when I get to 200k then I'll consider it a substantial amount)

I has also recently installed a cold air intake on my 98 and i have got to say it is well worth the money. I also bought mine from Chrome Intakes off of Ebay. I have noticed a 2mpg increas and better throttle response. The only problem i had was the mounting brackets. The instructions said this was optional and you had to find a place to mount it if you was to use it. This took me about an hour to do csuse i had to custom make my brackets. If you don't use the brackets the whole system is very loose.

And pualson, just so ya know my blazer just rolled over 167k miles.

I was looking at getting the following one off of ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1,1&item=7994143166&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT

Or could I just get away with this for cheaper?

Thanks!

the second one is cheaper cause it's only a partial pipe. The only gains you will see is from the open air filter. Once past the filter the air flow will still be disrupted by the stock plumbing. For best results get the whole thing - smoother air flow all the way in.

get the first one.

Thanks XPC2004, for the money I spent I couldn't be any happier. I would definetly recomend buying an intake from these guys. K&N can't hold a candle to them as far as price-vs-use. Why spend the extra money for a "cool" sticker when you can save $200.00 on the same basic item.
BlazerLT, great idea. I don't care what they say about you, you do have good ideas now and then.

j/k

Very nice!! That's the one I've been eyeballin' for a while now. What was your mileage before the install?

I was getting 16.2 before and 18.8 now. That is mostly in town driving with an occasional trip out of town.

How hard was it to take out the original air filter and housing unit? (the big box of plastic)

I just bid on one and can't wait to get it (do a lot of highway driving)

It's easy. You take the clamp loose at the throtle body, both sides of the MAF, pull the plug out of the top of the stock tubeing, take the nuts off the air box and it lifts right out. I needed an 8 mm and a 10 mm deepwell socket, a 3 inch extension and a 1/4 drive ratchet and bam 40 minutes later your done. I will say that it would be best if the truck was cool because the tubing is very hot on a warm truck. If you ordered your intake from Chrome Intakes, it will come with instructions but the whole thing is pretty straight-forward. I forgot to mention, there is a heat shield of sorts in front of the stock air box but it just lifts out.Good Luck.

I'm getting mine from intake pro but they say they include instructions...

even so without instructions it looks like it'd be fairly easy to swap out just by looking.

Thanks for your information!

I average 22-23mpg highway(that's pretty much all I drive) now all stock. I can't imagine getting it any better even with all the optional mods. But don't worry that won't stop me from trying!!!

Wow, that's incredibly good gas mileage...

My 96 with 168,600 miles on it gets about 17 or 18 mpg on the highway :(

I'll have to hope it goes up with the intake on...

For those of you guys who bought your intakes from chrome intakes could you scan your instructions and possibly email it to me or post them here...

I got instructions (which I'm sure I can work with) but they're fairly vague...

I'd really appreciate it!

Eh nevermind, I just put mine on... they really aren't that hard to install I tell ya...

Now I'll just have to see if it helps out my gas mileage...

You won't see a huge jump in economy.

Plus remember, you should be checking the hose clamps every 5000 miles and tighten them.
