I came out to my car this morning only to find that it wouldn't fire....turns over just fine, just doesn't fire. I checked my fuel pump, ignition module, coils, spark plugs (to see if it MAY be flooded) to no avail....what else can I check?

My only thoughts might be my cranksensor...? Any of you have any other ideas?

Also if you know where i can find any ignition diagrams that would help too...THANKS GUYS

I could be that it might be your timeing belt or chain not such what they put in that car. Also could be the starter i dont know much about cars but those are somethings!!!

some other things would be the ignition wires (or IDI packs if you have a 2.4 L) as well as the fuel pressure regulator.

Is there anyway to check the coils in an IDI ignition? Everyone is telling me that you just have to buy new ones....
Also, ridenour, you mentioned the "IDI packs"...what do you mean by this?
Last, where approminately would my cranksensor be? All that I have to go by now is that it is going to be by my oil pan on the left side of my block...

The cps on the 2.4 is located directly above and behind the oil filter and it is a real problem to get to from the top. Much easier from underneath. As for the IDI packs I am not familiar with that acronym either.

Well I meant the Integrated Direct Ignition coil packs. They're located in the whole IDI unit, and they meet the top of the spark plugs. They're you're coil packs. But now that I think about it; you said you already checked the coil packs, so they must be good. Sorry about that.

Ok, what is the difference between a flywheel sensor and a crankshaft sensor (if any). I have located what I think to be the crank sensor but it is on the right side of my block (if you are standing at the front of the car) and just above the flywheel...is the crank sensor a cylinder-shaped object with about a 1 in diameter? If no, just reply with "no"
If it is, why is it such a problem to get out? It twists left and right but I cannot remove it...WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?

scratch that last post.....either way, I located my speed sensor (it is VERY similiar to my crank sensor) so I thought I had it for a sec, but then I realized that it was mounted right over the front axle, PLUS it wasn't quite the same size as my cranksensor replacement. i STILL haven't found my damn crank sensor tho...piece of crap! I got it to fire though yesterday so I might give up and take it in...thanks for your help guys

The crank sensor is on the left side (standing in front of the car) near the oil pan, I do believe that you have to remove the harmonic balancer from the car to get at it. Pull the passenger side tire, you should be able to see the wire leading to it. There's another post on here somewhere from someone who couldn't get the balancer off and they give the location of the sensor. Just don't beat on the balancer to get it off the motor, all thats going to do is wreck it. You need a puller to get the balancer off.

GOOD NEWS! It turns out I had bad electrodes on my ignition switch...replaced it, and now it starts like a champ. It was a result of just age and a lot of starts....they were wore
