What engine could i put in my 94 geo Prizm

I would like to know if i could change the engine, as a whole, in my geo prizm to a v6 or just sumthin with more balls and get more bang for the buck. i would like to start racing so i would like to kno the best engine at cheapest price to put in my car to fool the competitors
