Pulling codes using "paper clip"

Hello to all

I have a 1987 Thunderbird. 5.0 L engine (Mustang type). Is it possible to pull the codes with the "paperclip" style "cheat"?Like on older model Chevys. I noticed through looking at older post that pinging could be caused by a faulty ignition control module. I have not checked the timing since the last post that I posted regarding the matter. But looking/asking ahead if the base timing is correct.

Thank you in advance to all

There is a way to use a paperclip or a jumper wire and an analog multimeter. I don't remember how as it's been almost 15 years since I've done it. I think I found the instructions in a Mitchell manual at the library.

Thank you flewthecoupe!

Also, regarding the post about timing. I cleaned the dapmner and SAW that the marks are on the dampner. I am use to the "Chevy" style of marks.

Again thank yous for the replies and help
