transmission shifting weird

I have a 2003 4 cylinder Jetta (not turbo). When I have to brake suddenly and then press the gas to go again, my car shifts hard. This happens when its cold, hot, A/C on, A/C off. Any ideas?

Buy a manual, that way when you slamo on your breaks the car wont downshift and you wont feel a clunk.
