is rice racist?

all these people goin around callin the posers with imports a ricer kinda pisses me off. Its obviously racist. i hear some people sayin that its about the cars and not the drivers but if you really think about it, its still making fun of asians. I dont really think its fair since us asians are gettin the worst of it. i mean do people go around calling a wannabe in a muscle car a cracker car? no, because its not right, but people do the exact same thing with imports and calling it a ricer.

you know, i really thought about it, and you're right! everytime someone calls a car rice, it's not referring to the car, nor the driver, its referring to asians. asians everywhere. sorry but you've looked too far into this one.

a ricer has clearly been established as being a car whose visual appearence of speed excells the actually capability of the car, hence the large wings, oversized pipes, excess of stickers and body mods, etc. Sure they arrived first on the import scene but rice has carried into domestics and many many americans now drive what is classified as "rice."

Maybe in the beggining it was racial, but "rice" has crossed into so many territories of the automotive world that it can hardly be called racist. Besides, even in the begining, if you attack the phrase "rice" being associated with asian racism, it goes much deeper than cars and quite frankley noone cares.

This has been done to death, please refrain from littering the forum further of unnessicary and pointless posts. If you take personal offense, noones forcing you to stay.

When you think about it:confused: ? The way you feel about people calling imports "rice burners or rice". Some other people feel the same way when it comes to people calling damestics "corn". As to say that a damestici s just some american muscle car driven by some red neck that lives in the back woods somewhere that has nothing better to do but make his stang,cuda,or camaro go fast. When I call somthing rice, I don't care who's driving or what color they are. It could be fucking Billy Bob Thorntan, Jesse Jackson, or Jet li driving, the way in which they mod their car is telling of their mentality that is what the rice is. It's not their color, it's not their choice of cars, it's their mentality.

Ok, high horse time again. First of all, if you can find me a good 'cuda for 5k, i'll shoot myself in the foot for your enjoyment. Second, maintaing/restoring/modifing these cars can be quite costly (go look through a year-one restorations catalog) so don't infer that owning a "muscle car" indicates a hillbilly, lack of wealth, dumb as a brick, beer drinkin' existence i don't really care, i just don't like to see people trying to pass along little bits of "info" like that.

By the way, i have never called a car, driver, or race "rice."

By generalizing everyone who says the word, you, sir, have made a prejudice remark. How can you say anyone who calls something a "ricer" is a hater and a wannabe? Shit gets talked regardless, and yes it comes from the experts and fastest for a reason. Consider an anology. A person who has no knowledge of martial arts whatsoever walks into a martial arts school and pretends to know what they're doing, what do you think the reaction will be from the true martial artists? Will they appreciate them and respect them because maybe they know what they're doing (ala have something under the hood you dont know about)? Hell no. It's simple. Martial artists (the majority) don't show off or abuse their talent, and true racers do not need a sticker to tell others they're fast; if they're skill is tested it will suffice as demostration of their talents. And another thing, the appearance of speed can in turn compromise speed, making such a term more appropriate when referring to such vehicles. I can tell you right now no real racer would have 22" rims and a huge wing. The rims would compromise handleing, and the large wing would diminish the aerodynamics of the car. So lacking knowledge of what's under the hood, it's easy to distinguish real racers. And unfortunatly, movies like Fast and the Furious spread this ignorance, and some who may have real racing talent may possess such assets on their cars, and they will live and learn, just like the other facets of life. Hell yeah Bryan you put it just how it should be. :) I reffer to stupid looking cars (ie. 22" wheels, big wings, 5" exhaust tips) as "ricers" all of the time BUT I in no way ever ment anything racest by it I've seen many nicely done imports even a few I'd like to drive around. I just Have one question for the import side of the "ricers" (not that all imports are rice , of course) but my question is look at Pro Sport Compact race cars NONE of them have huge wings, or 22" wheels, or 5" exhaust tips so where the hell did this become the fad of all of these types of cars? i have 15inch wheels and no spoiler, so obviously i dont get it either. its funny that even on the street all the fast imports are the ones with few body mods. thats the way it is here anyway. ive got my tint and wheels, the 335hp focus has tint, lowering and wheels, the turbo civic just has wheels, a supra turbo with a big front mount intercooler and lots of engine work, even has his stock spoiler removed. then theres these cars with thousands, and i mean THOUSANDS, in body kits and paint and spoilers, and theyre all slow. seems funny to me.

i got bored, so i created this to show that ANY car can be ricey when in the wrong hands, not just little imports. this is the car from bryans sig, modified to be "PiMp As HeLl DaWg!"

you're missing the point. the way you present your post makes it seem as if you condemn the use of the word in terms of it's offensiveness. The topic at hand is whether or not the term is, as it is used in recent context, racist slander, particularily towards asians and imports. Your post seems to take offense to the word because of its offensive nature, which is justified, but then you might as well attack the term POS which is just as offensive. My point is the term is not racist, and as for being offensive, i'm pretty sure alot worse things could be said about a car so it's pointless to ban the usage of such words as proper street-racing ettiquette (sp?).

I use the term rice for any car, import or domestic, that:

1. Has an assload of stickers on it, double if they don't have the parts related to the stickers.

2. Even worse, badging. Taking badges or stickers from other cars for things your car could not possibly have. Example; I saw a TRD sticker on a Ford Tarus station wagon.

3. Over done body kits, wings, interior, and wheels. Overdone to the point it looks ugly and they are just trying to hard to make their car something it's not.

Rice is a term that I use for cars that are all show and no go, or they have just gone too far with the show. My car looks stock but it can still move. I like that in a car, but body mods can be done tastefully. At that point I do not call it rice. I must ask, how is that racist?

alotta people been sayin that rice means the car has more show than go. We all obviously know that. Im sayin that calling a slow car rice is offensive 2 azns. I also think that it is asinine to say that just because some one is what the raciest term refers too gives them the right to use it anymore than someone else. I mean just cause I'm a white guy doesn’t mean I have anymore of a right to call a fellow white person a "cracker" than a black, Asian, Mexican or any other person does. Now it is very true that the term "rice burner" when it was first said what intended to imply to any cars from Asian or Japanese manufs. It does not however mean anything bad toward the PEOPLE that produce the automobile just the automobile itself. The term has since been changed to be applied to cars of all origins that fit under any number of criteria, be that it's style, size, etc. are a certain way. As a few people have pointed out words like "n*gga" have been used so many different ways now that the original hateful meanings are all but gone. To wrap this up words are only raciest if you see them that way. Words are nothing but a combination of letters the definitions of them are created by their usage. in other words, any word can be derogatory, it is simply the context in which the word is used and the feelings of the speaker of the word at the time the word is spoken.
