I have aftermarket wheels on my Grand Prix. I had it dropped 1.5 (Eibach dropkit), done by a local shop about 1 year ago. Last night I was hearing a bunch of rubbing on the the rear left tire. Took it to NTB...I was riding on 2 lugs. ouch ! Anyway when they took the wheels off they noticed spacers (not hub centric spacers) these were spacers that looked like washers between the rim and the plate. On my left tire the rim had stressing around the lug pattern from the washers. They put thinner washers on the right wheel and thicker ones on the left. I called Tire Rack for general information and found out that THIS IS NOT TYPICAL for proper fittment. Can anyone tell me why they did this? and if you have ever seen it? NTB told me that the shop that did it owes me new back rims and or a refund. Also the hub ring in the rim itself is bent all to heck !!!! HELP????

they should not have done that. wheel spacers usually are a bad idea for everyday driving. see if you can get some reimbursement from the shop. there is no reason to use spacers, especially on wheels from the Tire Rack, which are pretty much a perfect fit. i would definetly make them fix it and get a refund.

Actually the tires did not come from TIRE Rack...I just called them to get information so that when the local shop that put them on came back and tried to say it wasn't their fault I had ammo to come back on them. I actually just got off the phone with the shop that I got them from and they told me that they usually use wheel spacers if the rims do not fit properly. I told him that there is no reason why my rim should be bent in the hub area and stress fractured in the lug pattern. He said " i gotta look at it and call AXIS about that. It isn't Axis's fault....it was theirs and they are trying to get out of it.

oops i read it wrong. yeah they are trying to get out of it. If they knew the rims werent going to fit properly, they shouldnt have put them on. now im wondering: did they use "adapter plates?" or just spacers? adapters have a different lug pattern to fit different wheels.

I don't agree with the place using spacers and adaptors. If the wheels don't fit, don't sell them. It is common to need to re-torque aluminum wheels after a couple of days, and if they didn't tell you that, shame on them. If they did tell you to re-torque the lugs, and you didn't, shame on you. But it all boils down to one simple fact, they never should have sold you a set of wheels that require spacers unless you were informed, that way you could have made the decision, not them.
