Can anyone correctly identify this engine?

Im having trouble finding stamps or marks that tell me DEF what it is. Im thinking deT w/o the turbo... or maybe just a de... i cant really tell. Ive had a 240 b4, but this is my first SR, and boy its fun in this 200sx.

Yup, you have a low-port SR20DE. 140hp, 132ft-lbs. That's one great engine ya got there buddy. Redlines at, what, 7000rpm? 7200rpm? I can't remember, but it'll pull that 200 like nothin.

so your SURE its just a de..... cause the guy i bought it from says its a det. but i said wheres the turbine. Do you know what marks to look for to identify it. Oh and this isnt the stock engine that came in this car is it? cause he also told me he dropped it in. That might explain my check engine light. Will the stock mass airflow sensor make this engine idle lower? Im going to come here moer often... dont know really anyone in my town that knows a bunch about the sr's. thats all for now... oh and by the way thnx for compliment... he had a lot of stuff done to it, but ive added since ive had it... the sus. and some other stuff.

It's a DET if you're car is frikkin fast as fuck. But I doubt it. If you don't see an intercooler in the bumper or over your motor, there's the obvious answer. I'm sure it's a DE. And yes, it is the stock engine. He may have dropped a NEW DE in it, or something. Will the stock MAF make it idle lower than what?

it's a Lowport DE.. with a header^^ . sorry no turbo. like fugiot said. But Im sure it's fast as is now.. from all I read.

look guys, i know it has no turbo.... but a DET has an all forged bottom end, capable of handleing a trubine a l ot better then the stock engine in this car. the DE (which yesterday i found someone with an se-r just like mine same year and everything) has a almost block looking intake manifold, not open like on my car, which you can clearly see the i njectors... whats with that. Now you see my delimma. Im sure its not hard to buy an engine(a deT) w/o the turbo, and just slap a header on it, blah blah blah, now you have a de look alike with a monster bottom end. WOWOWOWOWeeeee lol. take a look at those pics up there, im sure someone will figure it out......
I NEED A NISSAN GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!

DET does not have a forged bottom end but it does have lower compression. So if this guy ya bought the car off told you it is a DET engine, he is full of sh!t. the 8.5:1 DET CR would mean the car would be gutless without a turbo.
What you have is a nice SR20DE with roughly 9.3:1 compression ratio and loves to rev.
The inlet manifold is used on the JDM Bluebirds and is basically the same design as the JDM Silvia's. The bolts on your rocker/valve cover are JDM version so very likely just an import SR20DE.
DET block differences are pistons have an oil spray onto them plus dished crown pistons(reduce compression)
It should be idling at 750rpm +/-50.

thank god for you.... i never thought id figure it out, but your explaination seems to be the most detailed one ive gotten. it makes sense to me though that its not de(t) b/c of the compres. but yes... it is a swap with some other engine bsides the stock one... anyways, i know some of you abouve were right as well, BUT cleo was def. the deal breaker. Thanks yall. oh, and just so that i know you prolly know, how much HP will this baby pump out b4 i have to put the turbine on???

yes, you have a 9.5:1 compression ratio, but everything else about your engine is nearly exactly the same as a DET. You can see your injectors because you have a high-port SR20DE. the "block looking" DE you saw, was a low-port(newer). Your intake manifold is under your injectors but his is above his injectors. Low-ports started being put into SE-Rs in 94. Since you have a 96, I can pretty much guarantee you that your engine was swapped out with a JDM or Euro version DE(both of which continued to be low-port until the SR20VE came around). Don't even worry about the differences between your DE and a DET, cause you'll still be able to boost way more than you should with a FWD compact. Probably somewhere around 400-450whp.
