Ok Well my freind had his car dyno tuned the other day and he couldn't get more than 146 whp and 113 tq. Now we figured that there is something really wrong with how they were tuning the car but he has taken it there before and has had no problems. He has an 98 gsr
current mods
intake
apex i n1 exhaust
v-tec controller
bored and stroked motor 2.0
b&M short shifter
type r ecu tuned for the 1.8
stage II 4 puck clutch and lightend flywheel
A.E.M cam gears
stage 1 comp cams
and suspenion stuff
146whp that is so sad after all of that i know that i have an unfair advantage but common. don't you come with like 170 stock he should be making well over 200 whp

By chance do any of you have clue why he's only getting that?

that doesn't sound right at all. He should get the engine checked out. and make sure everything is tuned right

I don't know what he said is that he is running really rich in the higher rpms and they can't lean it out

What do you mean by "tuned ECU"? What is it being tuned with? Because it sounds like that is the problem.

I don't know that is how he described it to me the people at the performace shop did it the first time he had his car tuned. I don't know what they did it with or anything like that. But when he got it back the first time it he said that it seemed faster and had a 9K redline. He said that he never took it that high because the type r had better internals so he didn't want to break anything.
Do you think that because he has a 2.0 now that its sucking more air and the ecu is trying to over compensate(spelling) for all of the extra air at the highend and thats why they can't lean it out? He is also still running the stock fuel system if that helps any. Also what size are the stock injectors for these cars

Sounds like someone's just tweaking one of those E-bay type chips, or maybe that with a V-afc? Tell him if he wants more power to get a better fuel management. There are tons of them out there for Hondas... uberdata (free), hondata, neptune, aem ems (expensive as hell, especially for his setup).

Well it turns out that it is the intake manifold that is causing the problem. The gsr some kind of valves that open up that the highend power range. I guess this is kinda of like the dsm cyclone manifold that opens at a highend for more air flow. Anyway because he has the type r ecu this function in not present and therefore is causing him to run rich. I also forgot to mention that he has the ls transmission in his list of stuff done to his car so basicly right now he is driving an ls vtec lol..

Just because he has an LS transmission, doesn't make it an LS VTEC. An LS/VTEC is when you have the LS short block with a vtec head. If he wants better acceleration then he should get a GS-R, B16a, or Type R transmission. The LS has very long gears and is better for fuel economy than anything else.
He's missing the IAB (intake air bypass) on his IM. But still, I don't think it'd make him lose that much power. He should gain hp with a better IM. Even more reason to get it properly tuned with a good program, they can get rid of the IAB junk. For a stroked engine, the good EMS is almost a must (it is if he wants power).

He wanted to go with a skunk 2 IM but he said that he doesn't have the funds to do that so he is just swaping the ecu. He said that the type r trany and the ls are almost the same except for the 5th gear. He told me that he can go 115 in 3rd at 8500 rpm's. i think that if im lucky that i can go 95 in third but im not sure i havent topped it out in a long time.

Naw, the LS and ITR transmissions are way different. The first gear is the same, but the rest(even the final gear) are different. Here are the different gear ratios for the B-series: http://www.allmotorhonda.com/techpages/B-series_Tranny_specs.htm So if he wants acceleration, he should get a different tranny.

Looks to me that they are the same except 4th and 5th. Anyway instead of getting the ecu for the car he is getting a venom itm installed tonight. So this will completely get rid of the problem of not having the high end power. That S.O.B always trying to out do me just wait until i put on the new turbo...

so at the wheels you lose percentage of your power..say 30hp to 40Hp

And yeah you havent really done any real mods to your car... liek why the hell do u have a vtec controller when you dont have any aftermarket cam gears????

What are you talking about. i have a gsx my friend has the honda. No stock at the flywheel is 210 on my car
