i own a 97 accord and for about the past month the car clicks while turning. its embarrassing as hell pulling up to mcdonalds and watching everyone staring. i want to get it fixed this week but i want to know what i need to do before i start calling places. how much should i be expecting and should i buy parts seperately and just pay for labor or do it all at the place i get it fixed. any help would be appreciated.

Hello Chris
You could call a few autoparts places to see what they offer and for how much. You are looking at a complete assembly of CVs (rebuilt)
Since garage labour prices vary, you may pick the one that suits you best i.e compitent in their work and have been around for a while. You could also mention warranty period they may offer on labour and part(s).
Cheers

Unless you are going to install the parts yourself, do not buy the part seperatly. Have the mechanic install the part, so its guarenteed.
If the mechanic supplies a faulty part, its his job to fix the entire job. If you buy a faulty part, you will not know until its installed, and you will have to pay to replace the bad part out of your own pocket.

^^^ ditto. Many places will sell good parts and install them. Look in the phone book for CV/Driveshaft service and that will probably get you the best price, and their experience will be concentrated on just axles and servicing them. Chances are they can pull yours, rebuild them, and reinstall them in an afternoon if they're not busy.

Many places now days will even carry complete replacement axles.
Pulling an axle and putting a replacement in only takes about 30mins if you know what your doing, so both sides could be done in an hour.
They then rebuild your old axles with new parts give them to the nest customer.
Replacing the joint on the CV takes about 10mins if you know what your doing, its quite a simple process, can require to splecail tools to do it efficiantly.
All in all expect a parts charge and about 1 hours labour.
Is someone wants to charge more than an hours labour go somewhere else.
I have no idea what parts are worth in the US, but here in NZ a complete recodintioned axle should cost more than a $100.
