I havnt posted in a long time but I have a 02 ws6 T/A. I have had it for 3 years and loved every bit of it. I recently got a job in Wilmington NC after finishing school and test drove a 05 6spd gto today. The problem here is that I loved it. My Trans Am is the best looking car I ever seen and It runs like hell. But I drive alot and the roads here are terrible and I go home alot which is a 200 mile trip one way. My TA is an auto, which I love, bc my first vehicle was a 76 jeep cherokee with a 360 and 4spd, so first gear was only need when trying to pull tree stumps ;-) so I told myself I would always buy an auto afterwards. Anyway, After I got it out of town, which was a amazing seeing as to how I havent drove a stick in 5 years, the thing I most noticed was not the torque, nice exhaust, or heavy clutch pedal, which I hope breaks in easy. It was the smooth ride which reminded me of my dads cadillac sts. (I dont have to tell yaw how the T/A rides on a road that is anything but perfect) It felt so good and safe, as the salesman didnt even squinch as I almost stalled then left a set of darkies duing a u-turn at the light. When I was driving it I wanted it so bad, but when I look at them side by side, that T/A looks alot faster and meaner (even though the dual exhaust and hood scoops brings out some some of that 400hp on the goat). and its hard not to take out the t-tops throw in your girl friend and do a few doughnuts and peel out into the street and taker up to 160 or what ever the top end is. Looks wise the T/A wins hands down. I dont know if I have the heart to trade it in. Which I am going to wait till after Christmas to decide so I can pay off some credit cards and get my first bonus which would make a great down payment. Sorry this got so long, but its a big burden on my feelings. And I know what most if not all of you will say, but go easy b/c there is no other forum to get a second opinion. The GTO forum is damn near non existent.
ps. both are red.
{Sorry to hear about HYPSI87.} I havnt been on in a while.

Personally, I love the GTO's. And if you think you would be more comfortable in one, then hey, trade her in. But you gotta think.. How many people do you know who have a 2002 Trans Am WS.6? That's a total chick picker upper right there. But.. I don't know. That's definately gotta be a tough decision right there. One thing I like about the GTO, is it's low profile appearance. Not nearly as agressive looking as the Trans Am. More like a sleeper. But.. all in all. I say if you feel more comfortable in a GTO, then go for it.

thanks for understanding my situation blindxeyed, as far as how many people do I know with a 02 ws6? afew. About 6 mo ago my best friend go out of basic. He joined the army reserve. When he go out he got a construction job with his old man and bought a silver 02 ws6. pissed me off. We are still friends, but he found out Friday that he is going to Iraq in September, so now I cant really be man at him anymore. As far as a chick magnet I have been with my girlfriend since before I got the T/A so there went that. Ive picked zero girls with it, not even my current G/F :-( Ive made a few friends with it though of which some were female ;-)

I'd stick with the T/A if I were you for the following reasons:

1- the T/A you have is very likely the last T/A Pontiac will ever make. This will help in collector's value one day when you hand it off to your kids way down the road.

2- you mentioned something about paying off credit cards. sounds like you have some debt accrued. Not that your finances are any of my business, but it sounds like you'd be taking on payments for the GTO. The T/A should be paid off, or, at least you owe a lot less for it. This gives you $$ to live your life, buy speed parts, keep your girl happy, etc. taking on payments for a 30-40K car will hurt the wallet.

3- If the T/A ride is too harsh, you can swap the suspension for softer parts to compensate. Or, maybe buy an adjustable suspension. soften it for those long trips and stiffen it for when you want to play.

4- If the power is an issue, build the T/A up and make it stronger. There's a good enough market for LS1 parts

5- the cost for #3 and #4 would still be a lot less than the price of a new car. you could keep the aggressive looks you love, go faster and ride as smooth as you want for less. Your insurance will probably be less for the T/A too.

I hope this is helpful

$18500 its got little over 4000 miles and they bumped it up alittle above kbb b/c I got my T/A from there. Bob King, and have done more business with them in the past. Anyway, I know it looks alot better and If I (dont drive it) and park it for life, it would be worth alot someday. Problem is I drive it alot. Especially since I live on my own and cant take the old man's truck when I go places. money here isnt the biggest problem anyway. When I went in I told them how much I was willing to pay a month and they got it close enough. I have had the T/A for 3 years and had a 97 T/A before that and my first (car) was a 91 firebird. So It feel weird having something else. But its not my fault, b/c if GM made new Firebirds and kept it in prodution it would have made my decision easier. But they didnt so when it comes to getting a new car, my only choices are. GTO, Corvette (cannot afford), and oh my gosh a mustang (i vomited a little when I spoke it) to much of a blast from the past for me and with 300hp come on, ford needs to get with the times, but hell they sell alot of um. I love the sound and torque of a big V8 car so one of those small souped up 4's from mitshubishi or whoever will not cut it. I would have to trade in the T/A one day anyway, and the closest thing to get is a GTO. Yea I could wait till 2009-10 for a rumored camaro or new gto, but by then my car would have over 150000 miles and be worth under 10K, if that.
