I have a 94 Nissan Altima 2.4L 4cyl with automatic transmission. While checking around for a used transmission I am being asked if I have a locking or non-locking differential? Does anyone know how I can tell which one I have, because I have no clue?

Do you have the numbers off of your trans ID tag? I think they are easy enough to see on the front side. Then send an email to Isabel Arana at drive train. [email protected]
I think if you jack both front wheels off the ground, put the transmission in neutral, and turn one of the tires by hand, the tire on the opposite side will turn in the opposite direction. If the tire does turn in the opposite direction it is a non-locking differential.

Well I do not need a new transmission afterall. So I did not need to look and see what differential I have. For JustSayGo, thank you very much for all of your help, especially on how to adjust the linkage. After some problems, I was able to finally get the transmission leak fixed, the adjustment taken care of, and the car is finally back on the road, even though it did take a few days longer than I was hoping. The best part is that since I was able to get your advice I didn't have to take it to a shop, so thank you big time.
