no a/c in 2000 gt

I posted a message a few weeks ago concerning the lack of cold air in my grand prix and got some good feedback. Unfortunately, I still have a problem. I have the 2000 gt with auto climate control and get a mild coolness at best from the a/c. The ambient air sensor reads fine. No cabin air filter installed. Checked out the condesner and it looks fine except for the occasional bug and checked the r134a and it appears to read fine. I hooked up a freon kit followed the directions and got a satisfactory reading. Any other ideas? Could it be a relay in the fuse box or some other electrical switch? Any advice appreciated. I am not a seasoned mechanic so its very possible I could be looking over something obvious. I did install an aftermarket head unit recently but that and replaced the t-stat but doubt that would affect anything?
Thanks in advance.

A few questions....is the blower working properly? also, i think you have dual climate control...is passenger side colder than driver side? when you said you checked condensor, and it had a bug...can you give details?...It sounds like it may be the actuator under the dash.....it may be allowing hot air to mix with the cool air

a few questions.
1. Is the air the same mild temp on both driver and passenger sides?
2. Do you have good air flow but it's just not cool enough?
3. Did you check system pressure on both the high side and low side?
4. have you noticed any odd or musty smells coming from your A/C ducts?

Thanks for the info. To answer your questions I do believe that the passenger may be a little colder than the driver side. Not much colder though. The blower is putting out good aiflow. As far as the condesner it looked fine except for some small inevitable bugs in the fins. Theres are no odd smells. I hope that clarifies some questions. I have some of my own. When you check the pressure on the high and low side, what are you referring too and how is it done? I will check the actuator under the dash with the help of a manual. Where is it located and whats it look like? Thanks for the advice.

The low pressure side is between the compressor and evap core, the high pressure side is basically the return side, where the refrigerant is sent to the condenser. If the low side is out of spec reading low, it usually indicates low charge. If the high side reads out of spec high, it indicates a blockage in the system. The other thing to check is the temp actuator(s), the little motors that move the door that switches airflow from the heater core to the evaporator core. One or both may not be completely closing, allowing hot air from the heater core to mix in causing tepid air temps.

I will take a look at the high and low port asap. Thanks for the info. Should I try to bress down on that t-stat nozzle and see if that bleeding helps,..would that help? Also,..I did a check for the actuator on the board and could n't find any discussion as to where its located. Is it under the drivers side dash?

thanks for the help.

If you have dual climate control, there will be two of them, one for the driver, one for the passenger, both are located high under the dash on each respective side of the center console. The AC-Delco part number is 15-72971 for both sides, if you find that they are the problem. I work for an AC_Delco distributor here in Flint, MI, and can sell them to you for $90.22 each (ouch, not cheap!) plus shipping. I would check to see if you have some mold/and or mildew on your evap core blocking air flow. If it's clean, then I'd check the actuators. If it's clogged, they make a cleaner available at most auto parts stores that can remove the ickys and get your A/C cold again.
