my mom has an 02 elantra. the gauges, i'm sure most of you know, light up purple. my gf is obsessed with my mom's purple gauges and she wants me to make the gauges in her cavy purple.
so my question is, how did hyundai do it? did they use purple l.e.d.s? my mom won't let me tear her dash apart to check for myself, or i would.
i changed my gauges from blue to red with a film from the print shop i work for, and it turned out excellent. i tried finding a purple film, but came up with nothing. if anyone knows where i could get some, that would make this job a TON easier.
thanks

At Drivers & Believers (http://egt.gwebworks.com/index.shtml), an Elantra GT site, they discuss how to change the color of the digital clock to purple to match the other instruments. It saysTake off the dash (remove two screws in the ashtray and two above the steering wheel), unscrew the clock, remove the plastic Green that goes over the white clock and replace it with a bluish-purple transparent paper.
I got a nice one that matched the dash from a music store that carries filter for stage lights. Matched perfectly. It cost a total of $3 because I bought a nice filter. You could do it cheaper by buying a transparent sheets from Office Depot or somewhere similar. That quote was from the bottom of Page 3 of the Garage Section (http://egt.gwebworks.com/garage3.shtml).
Good luck.

hmm. thanks. i never thought of paper. or light filters from a music store. next time i do a project like this i will keep that in mind.
by the way, i ended up using purple leds for this job. the pic i have makes the gauges look blue, but it's really purple.
