timing

i got what a homemade truck more or less its a 78 bronco frame and a 79 f150 body it haqs a 400 mod under the hood any 1 know what the timing should be set at? it may sound dumb but i'm learning bout this truck,dont know much bout it at all any help would be good thanks

Somewhere around 8 degs BTDC. Try going 12 degs., but if it starts to ping, back it down to 8-10...Good luck!
