My car wont crank at all and the engine code ofcourse is #46, I read some articles and cut the two white wires with the orange coat and placed a resistor of 4.7 value (which is what I got from the key chip) between the two wires, nothing.. What I dont understand is where did the security light go? it doesnt come on at all...I always thought if something failed in that system the light would stay on??? I might have misread the ohms off the key im not sure I tested it on 20K from one side of the chip to the other could that value be correct?? This VAT system is driving me crazy Please help. The location of the starter relay and this VATS module will aslo help. Im thinking maybe my problem lies in the column itself. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I believe the VATS module is behind the driver's side kick panel. To my knowledge there is no starter relay. The ignition switch, neutal safety switch, or the VATS system could cause this type of problem, but it's most likely the VATS given the trouble code.

What year??

Take the key to a GM dealership. They can check the resistor and get you the code.
I just went through this on my 1999.

I fixed it!!!! I did go to the dealer but the parts guy wouldnt give me the ohm reading he just said it was a number 11 resistor. So I researched that and I read this incredible article thats good enough for an idiots guide for a weekend mechanic and its in very easy steps for anyone wanting to bypass the VATS system!!! I made sure that I got the resistor level down to the last ohm correct and then I did not connect it in series but just placed it on the two wires left going to the module and presto I had my security light back and I was back in business!!! For some of you that are experiencing a problem like this read this article on this page;

for those that took the time to respond thank you!!!
