got it checked out when i got an oil change...they said it was a rattle from inside the muffler. its been on about a yr, doesnt rattle all the time...it comes and goes. could one of the baffles inside the muffler be loose? anyone else had this problem, do i need a new muffler already? thanks, jeff.

I had another brand do that to me on my 442. The baffles came loose and rattled intermittently. Try banging on the muffler with a rubber mallet to verify.
As a temporary fix to mine, I wacked it good in the center with the round end of a ball peen hammer. Rattle came back after awhile though so I replaced it.

Welcome to the club. I bought my truck used with 41K and it had a 50 series flushmaster single in dual out with 3" chrome cannons. By 47K the cannons were rusted completely over and the muffler was rattling bad, I said BAD. You get what you pay for and stainless is the answer.....

so if a baffle is loose inside...basicallly the only fix is to replace the muffler? maybe a magnaflow this time? what about cuttin off the muffler and havin just straight pipe? ...guess that would be way too loud.

I thought Flowmasters had a lifetime warranty. I know with Midas where I had my exhaust installed they told me it had a lifetime warranty.

What ever you do get SS, thats Stainless Steel.... Chrome will always rust no matter what you do and how often.... Good luck searching

I dont think you should go with magnaflow although they may be a good muffler the sound they produce is horible i think you should go with another flowmaster and if you dont want to a muffler that is very simular to flowmaster is vortech i belive thats how you spell it just search vortech exhaust and it should come up the the exact same muffler as flomaster just a different name but create that awesome sound that you want

i will have to look into the warranty for my flowmaster...i thought it was limited, and the magnaflows were lifetime...i could be wrong.

Get a Borla muffler to replace yours. They sound very good to me.
My Flowmaster has a rust hole in it, and its 3 years old. I'm replacing it with something that wont be as loud when I remove my cats.

how do they sound compared to a 40s series flowmaster? a little quieter ive heard?
the main thing im concerned about now is getting one that will last. my rattle isnt bad yet but eventually it will get worse.

its quieter but you can still hear it. It has a really deep tone. I posted these soundclips little while ago...
go here and go down until you hit the silverado...there are two sound clips...my truck sounds just like it.

what engine do you have...mines 4.8. i was gonna get a magnaflow in the first place ...guess i should have. being stainless i guess they would last? are they straight-through design or do they have the baffles like a flowmaster muffler?
