Hi everyone. I just installed a new CD deck into my car. I was told that i need a special cable in order to keep the old CD deck still plugged in at the same time (I was told that Pontiac would not service my vehicle without the original deck being hooked up). So I spent the $80 on the cable and I have the original hooked up in my trunk. However, I have noticed some major differences since installing the new deck.
1)I no longer have to put my car in reverse to pull the key out (manual transmission)
2)There is no door chime if I leave my keys in the car or if I leave my lights on
3)My stereo does not continue playing after I shut the car off (it did with the old deck)
4)My fog lights are no longer on when the running lights are on
I was wondering if anyone knows how I can get all of these features back!!?? I thought that by buying this expensive cable and installing the original deck that my car would have all of the original features like when I bought it!!!
Thank you!!!

Hey man... first off It doesnt matter if the factory deck isnt in they have to service the vehicle second you could have bought a module to retain the facotry door chime it costs the same amount of money... you must have shorted some wires your best bet is to take it out put the factory stereo in see if everything works... or check all your fuses i have a 2001 GA se and i have put many different stereos in my car with no problems i have a cold air intake and have the stock engine is different all GM says is that there are aftermarket parts on and theyw ont touch them thats it...
Let me know what happens.

Sounds like you need to stop being cheap and take your car to a prefessional to have the deck installed. This is how I see it, spend $50 now to have a pro to install it, or spend hundreds later leting the dealer fix other problems caused by a bad install. The only electrical thing that i've ever installed myself in my GA was my XM radio, and maybe the occasional headlight.
