AWD reliability?

Anyone have any input on the AWD on the Rendezvous?
Does it make THAT much difference in poor weather?
Also, I know 4WD systems are sensitive to tire wear (size, circumference, etc.) and that regular tire rotation is a must, but I'd appreciate any input on any issues with the reliability of that system that folks are aware of.
As far as tire rotation, is there one pattern that's better than another?
Thanks.
P.S. I read somewhere that some AWD problems are related to wheel bearing failure and that the reason for the failure is that the wheel speed sensors are part of the bearing. There was some suggestion that there is a flaw in this design. Any input on this?
