3.8 sable Blower fan makes temp gauge rise

Firstly I apologize for those who have read a similar early post. My 93 sable 3.8 temp rises when the blower fan is turned on. It's a four position switch every time I turn the fan speed up the gauge takes a quick bump up. How could the blower fan be affecting the temperature gauge? I replaced the temp sending unit and thermostat. The heads were redone about 6 months ago. Man this one is stumping me. I just want to squeeze 20k more out of it.

I've got a tempo that does the same thing. I really haven't worried about it because it never goes all the way to the red zone. I'll bet it would do the same thing if you turned the headlights on while sitting still. I would guess that it is a problem related with the voltage regulator, and the extra draw of amps from accessories is somehow changing the resistance of the signal to the temp. meter. But I don't really know why, but I would have the regulator checked or replaced.

Good stuff. Yeah I'm going to try that. I noted in an earlier post that when I heard the radiator fan come on the temp went up and when it kicked in high speed the temp rose again. It's got to be electrical. I repaired both heads about 6 months ago and figure I disturbed something or broke a wire.

my escort just started doing exactly the same thing this week. I'd like to know if you get if fixed and how.

Thanks

Likewise if you get yours fixed let me know. I haven't replaced the voltage regulator yet, but plan to do it in the next couple of weeks. Car stays in normal range, but high normal sometimes and it makes me nervous. Don't know if temp is wrong or car is actually running that warm although I think it's predominately an electrical problem.

Check that all your ground straps that go to the engine are connected properly. I figure that may change the resistance somehow and screw up the reading???

it was ground. I had just replaced the neg batt cable and the wire to the eec wasn't hooked up right.

I have a 92 taurus 3.8 same exact problem. My radiator fan would speed up to what i thought was high when engine was really warm or the A/C was on, but it wasn't. When you think your radiator fan is on high. Listen to the radiator fan speed. Unplug the temp. sending switch ( 2 wires in the plug) next to the thermostat (not the sending unit... it has 1 wire). If the radiator fan speeds up the problem is likely to be the integrated engine control relay. It's located above the radiator (24 wire harness)
I hope this helps.
