Center console on 2002 Explorer

I want to remove and reinstall the center floor console on a 2002 Explorer XLS. I want to do this to route the wiring for a cell phone car kit through it. How do I get the console off the floor? If I get it out, does it clip back in?

First remove the center console storage door, then the storage bin. After you remove all the screws it should pull out complete (the bin). Then, take the little rubber mat infront of the two cup holders out and remove the screw under it. That should allow you to remove the cup holder/top section of the center console out. Doing that should allow you plenty of working room to run wires without the need to actually remove the lower part of the center console. But if you do want it out it shouldn't be too hard from that point.

i could not get my storage bin out using this method.

those 4 5.5mm bolts where nice to find a wrench for that fit thats hold the door hinge on.

4 for lid, 4 in bottom, 2 screws on the side and 2 behind the lid. did i miss any?

I forget exactly how many there are but I'll check for you tonight.
