how do i get more horse power out of my 1996 eclipse GS
garages told me that the engine has to low compression for a turbo

It has too high of compression for a turbo. Turbos need low compression. Everyones going to say to pull the engine, rebuild the internals, and add a turbo.
How much are you looking for? If you want some, do the basics first... FULL exhaust (header, high flow cat, cat back), intake, ignition, and a U/D pulley. These will get you the most power right away, and for rather cheap. Intake manifold will help more, TB, and a good tuning wioll do good too. Bigger FIs, fuel rail, fuel pump, and again tuning will get you the most.
If you want instant power, go with a turbo (that's right, I said that). lol

Low compession is great for boost, but high compression built 'race' motors don't fare too badly either... the 6-bolt block I just purchased has a 9.1:1 compression ratio (which I thought was kinda high too), and boost should be limited at 25-30 psi on it. The 9200 RPM redline certainly makes up for the boost limitations though :icon16:, so even a high compression ratio with strong internals and a solid block ought to get you going pretty fast.

But that can get expensive. Raising the compression and rebuilding everything is a bitch and a half.
Again, if you want to do basic boltons, I stated them above. If you want more, we got that too!

Why don't you just sell the GS, and get a fricken turbo for like 5,000. It's not like there aren't any left on the planet. Why would you do ALLLL that work and not even have as much accel and pull back as a simple GST...I just don't get it. Unless you just like doing it, then it makes sense.

1. You lose money on buying, then selling a car. More owners, less value.
2. Maybe he doesn't want to wait around for a good buyer. Sometimes that can take a very long time.
3. Maybe he has already done work to his car. As for me, I already have body work done, why would I go and sell it, thus losing ALOT more money than I'll be saving.
4. Availability of turbo DSM's. No, they are not everywhere. I would most likely need to drive hundreds and even thousands of miles to get to one, no-can-do.

I don't know how this thread got switched up like this but oh well..... :smokin:
My car was brought to me by the guy that bought it at an auction that worked for a dealership. I only had to drive 12 miles to the dealership to pick it up, and paid $300 over what he paid for it.
As for the topic of this thread....
If your loaded with $$$....get a turbo kit...get you to 220 hp (estimate)
If you are limited with $$$....intake, header, exhaust, ignition, udp....get you to 180 hp (estimate)
The turbo kit will cost anywhere between $1,500-$3,000 depending on a lot of factors. The shit I listed with the *limited* budget you could get and install everything yourself for less than $1,000.
