Problem with lights

Alright I own a 2003 Monte Carlo.

I was messing around with my stereo while my car was running, and I accidently touched the top metal part of my stereo, which is aftermarket btw, with my needlenose and I heard a sound like a fuse blew and all of my lights inside turned off, everything from cluster lights to all the other lights that come on at night, it's basicly like driving around in the daytime because the only think I could see is what gear I was in, i.e. PRND123.

ALSO my backlights now wont turn on, only if I break, like I said its like driving during the daytime, but my front lights will still come on and the lights still come on automaticly. the DRL. Hope you can help.

did you check your fuses? I myself didnt think you could hear fuses blow, the fact that you heard it, maybe tells me that you could have fried a relay. As you can hear relays click. I dont know. maybe try unhooking your deck, could be the wiring there shorting sometheing out. Did you install it yourself? Or was it professionally installed? As you could have hooked an illumination wire up wrong. Just a thought.

And you say that at idle your "tach" is always just below 1000 rpm's? Um, yes that is perfectly normal. do you know what RPM stands for? Revolutions Per Minute. your car idles at 800 revolutions per minute. If your tach dropped to 0, then your call would have stalled. Maybe understand what I'm saying?

Its not me who's saying that, it was this woman who asked this question, man she got made fun of badly because of it. I know about the RPMS and everything, im not that stupid :lol2:

Also I do think I blew something because my daytime running lights wont come on at all, and whenever I pull my light switch you know to turn on my headlights I hear this click on the right side when I push it back in, so i'll check it out. How can I tell if its messed up btw? A relay im talking about not a fuse.

sorry about the rpm's thing, I was pretty sure no one was that dumb, but there are a lot of strange people. Ok, first check all your fuses. ALL of them. Use either a test light, or a multimeter. I will assume you know the fast way for checking fuses with a test light. Also you make sure you check any under the hood in the engine compartment. Then maybe buy a haynes repair manual, and try to track down your wiring, and maybe look for in line relay's. you will have to look at the schematics on them, but when 12volts is applied to a certain 2 terminals, you will hear it click, then you should be able to test for contunuity. make sense?
