1.9L performance options?

hey guys...what are some options for boosting hp in a NA 1.9L escort? also, are there any turbo kits for the 1.9L engines?

There are no "turbo kit's" for the 1.9 Escort.
But that does'nt mean it cant be turbo charged.

The 2.0 spi swap is fairly easy. If your looking to add some quick ponies...Nitrous is a good bang for the buck (no pun intended). Otherwise, like jeffescortlx posted, turbo can be done. Check out the forced induction forum over at feoa.net

True, you got me there. I kind of got pissy when I saw this post cause I think there have been at least three people ask that question in the last two pages.

But I am in a good mood today so here goes.

Weapon R makes a great intake for the 1.9.

A 3.8 liter throttle body from the scrap year can be fitted to the 1.9 with about 2 hours worth of work. Just remember that the throttle cable is on the opposite side for the stang. So make sure you switch the two end wires on the throttle position sensor. And you will have to make a bracket for the cable. I heated mine and bent it the other way.

Also a 5.0 mass air sensor can fit. (Don’t listen to the punks at auto pro, they don’t know)

A short shifter can be maid for you escort, in fact its in your car now. If you have the shifter with the plastic bell on it you can put it in a vice and tap the top with a mallet (rubber). This will tap the shifter down, install and enjoy.

Pace Setter makes a short throw if you have the steel version.

Pace setter also makes a nice exhaust SYSTEM. Not a muffler but a real mandrel bent cat back.

Pace Setter also sells headers. You have to relocate the cat but there are worth a lot in horse power. (The headers work best with the exhaust and a performance cat, just make sure it’s the same size!

The roll bars from any corresponding year will be a direct fit. Just make sure you get the hard wear.

Seats from an MX3 will bolt right in. Just make sure you switch the buckle on the seat for the belts.

A good weight reduction is to take out the tar sheets and the spair. Oh and the ac system, the compressor most of all, its pritty heavy.

We have to remember that a 200 hp car that weights in at 2000 pounds is a force to reckon with.

I forgot to add that if you want to up the compression you can. There is a form on the Cosworth web site you can fill out with your specific mesurements and they will pound out four pistions for a good price.

Simple stuff, Remove airbox cut bottom out of it. The Bigger mass air flow can also be found on various "big cars" tarus sable ect. Just remember to put your mass air flow guts into the new housing. I also got some headers from a 85 ish scort gt. They bolt up except for the down pipe has a bit diff angle from the factory one(some cutting and welding is required) . The cat will also have to be added into the exhuast sytem cause the factory 1.9 manifolds/downpipe has the cat made into it. Buy a belt for a no ac car and get rid of that sh!t. I also gut a fuel presure reg and bumped that up a bit. The fords all use simular regs in those years. If ya look around they do offer a new coil pack to get some better spark. I think msd even makes it...good luck with it

yeah I forgot to mention that MSD does make a pack for the EDIS system and Accel does too. I have the Accel one, works well. I also put on accel wires and irrudium plugs.

even if you have the steal ball on your stock shifter you can still pound it up real easy with out heat just need a vice and a hammer (NOT RUBBER) a BFH you got to pound hard but by far that is one of the best things i did to my interior of my escort besides the Gt Grant Steering wheel the throw is about 50% less way better than stock tower semi shifter if you did not do this you really should its easy!!!

Sweet Im doing that tonight then. I removed tar sheets yesterday from the back of my 1.9, pain in the butt and knuckles. Well worth it tough, after I took it all out I went for a drive, pritty sweet. You can here the rumble from the exaust. (Yes it does rumble) and after I put all the trim back in oyu cant here the road noise any more, so as far as sound dead-a-ning material goes its use less.

I'd say have your head milled to increase compression. I wouldn't worry if you have an EFI intake, considering it does flow pretty well, and the old CFI intakes were actually enough for the engine, unless you really wanted to race it. Go find a 1.9 HO 4-2-1 exhaust header. Ford made one, and they make a difference. Adds a bit of engine noise in the cab.
