Torque Converter, Vacuum, Tweaking?

I bought a 1967 mustang and it has been sitting for 8 years, when me and my dad started to first work on it we were gaining progress in getting it to run, since it had not been for 8 years. The carbeurator was rebuilt, New fuel pump, Cleaned out fuel line and some other small mods. The thing about the car is that the engine ran sweet and it looks even better now that we took it out and cleaned it up.
My question is if anyone knows what causes my car to run fine in neutral and park, but when its in reverse or drive it will shake for a second or two and then die. When the car is on 4 stands and put into gear it runs sweet most of the time, but when its on the ground it will always die. This reason is what causes me to believe it has something to do with the air or fuel, like not enough power is being created to keep the combustion up. I am only 16 so im not major mechanic, Any answers will be looked at and i really appreciate the help. Thanks

Well if your refering to the rpms the exact amount is unknown, after talking with my dad we estimated about 600 rpms at idle but that is only our best guess, we can't check at the moment either because the car is nearly all disassembled.

I am having the same problem with my 1998 v6 mustang. Did you ever find out whats wrong?

Could you give it a little gas while shifting into gear and keep it running? It does sound kinda like a converter problem.

what tranny do you have? if you have a newer tranny with a lock up Torque Converter it maybe locked up. it would be like letting the clutch out real fast in a standard tranny

yes if i give it gas it will stay running. But as soon as I let off the gas it stalls. Its a v6 automatic transmission. Thanks for responding.

Hmmm....it could be the floats in the card r maybe even a clogged/collapsed cat. With old cars such as that, it is a little easier to track down the problems on the vehicles. You may want to set your idle a little higher. I believe that it should be idling around 800 to 1000 RPM
