CRV/VTEC -- complete?

Alright someone I know is looking for a complete CRV/VTEC motor and since I dont carry them im forced to look around for him. I figure I will find someone in here that might know... heres the specs

JDM B20 block
JDM B16 head (first gen cable style)
(less then 30k on both)

Motor is cleaned and prepped, and the block can even be painted at no charge. (gotta be damn clean in order to paint it eh?)

Its complete, minus a distributor... (see this everywhere)

Whats a good price to pay for something like this (and shipping fees?) Man I havent sold a swap in the longest time, anyone wanna buy one of the above - we could do a group buy

But no seriously, what should I tell him to expect to pay. Remember its B20 block, B16 head... thats it, I think anyways -- I know some people throw in the B17 crank when building them but im not sure if this does or not (less you NEED to use it to make it work) Anyone?

Well there a bit more to it than just bolting the block and head together?

I trust both you and the guy your selling it to are aware of this?

As for cost, well just add the cost of the parts together, and put your standard mark up on it.

Or have a look around places like ebay for a good idea of the going prices.

What exactly do you mean its a little differant then just bolting the head to the block?

There are of course downsides to mating two engine parts that were not designed to be together and expecting to work together. One of the main problems is that Vtec enabled blocks were designed to rev allot higher than their non-Vtec counterparts. Of the things Honda designed into the Vtec blocks to help them survive high rpm use are oil squirters. Oil squirters serve dual functions both as piston coolers and piston lubricators. Both of which are very important when revving to 9000 rpm. The lack of which could result in damage from prolonged high-rpm usage. Another aspect is that non-Vtec blocks usually have worse R/S ratios making the situation that much worse. The stock oil pump will also need to be replaced as it might not have enough pressure to satisfy both the block lubricating needs and the oil-activated Vtec assemblies. Valve clearance is another issue that needs to be addressed before you not only mate the head and block but also play with cam timing. The valve relief’s in the stock pistons are usually deep enough to accommodate the new longer travel of the Vtec valves but if they aren’t, they need to professionally widened or aftermarket pistons need to be used. And when using camshaft gears to tune cam shaft timing, each setting both 2 and 4 degrees advance and retard need to be tested for valve clearance as well. Failure to do so may cause the valve to crash into the piston when it arrives at TDC (Top Dead Center) which could bend it or chip it which may cause even more damage. Either way the head needs to pulled and repaired.

There are other things required, it's a whole lot of custom shit. There's a site I have that's selling the B20 longblock for like $750 or $799, I'll post it up Nick as soon as I find it

Juan that doesnt take care of the B16 head though...

But yeah I knew that it would need some oil lines -- however the motor will never even come close to 9000 rpm as the CRV block really wasnt made for it. If he wanted a motor that made all its power at 9000 rpm he would get like a Type R motor...

:p

Juan, read above... like I said, I dont sell CRV/VTEC swaps and I dont get individual parts -- all my swaps are complete, I cant just ask them to strap a B16 head onto a B20 block and send it my way :(
