my knowledge on the subject is laughable but I know the GTO had a mean 5.7 (350 horses I beleive) would that fit into a 4th gen F body? and is the latest 400 horse GTO still a 5.7?

:iagree:

It'd be easier to freaking get a used 98+ Z28 or SS Camaro since it has the same engine and 20-50 less horsepower

The GTO has the vette LS1 which honestly is nearly the same performance as the f-body LS1... so for probably cheaper find a motor out af a 98-02 z28, ss, trans am, formula, or firehawk and use that

If it is an LS1, it is roughly the same power, regardless of the rating.
LS1 is the 5.7.
The new GTO gets the LS2.
LS2 is a 6.0.

Thank you Curtis for clearing up..what has already been known. :lol2:

Im just joking but if you want GTO power why not just GET the GTO?

Savage Messiah

because GTO power = LS1 power = gto, vette, f-body power

Rally Sport

Well its not just the power you're getting with the GTO, i've heard its a smoother ride, almost like the vette but cheaper and obviously without the awesome suspension.

Having driven both a reasonable degree, it's nothing you can't get out of an f-body

i dunno those seats are the shit, its a caddy dressed up, the gto rides sweet, the vett isnt the best ride, u feel everything in that thing but hey its a speed car right

I was just wondering cause I love the old F-bodies and the GTO looks pretty ugly, but it is somewhat faster, considerably faster with the ls2, but I guess that wouldnt fit. I know I'll never do that kind of swap, but I was just wondering if possible

u can do that swap u will just need a few different parts

The LS1 and the LS2 block are very close to identical.

The LS2 fits. Its the same swap as an LS1, the internals just have a longer stroke.

Larger bore, same stroke.

There's no way...that can't all be bore!?

It only went up 20 cubes.
Let me double check, pretty sure it was all bore though.

Yup...

Stock LS1 bore = 3.898
Stock LS2 bore = 4.000

Yea, your right, I just looked up the same numbers. Guess you learn something new everyday!

the new Z06 has an ls6, right? would that fit? cause you can get some sick power out of a weaker lookin car. Thats always a lot of fun. even if it isnt practical most of the time

Yup.. I remember that its a 7l engine.. good god.

Ooh look at me.. im Curtis.. I drive a Vibe in my free time and I know statistics to the core.

Just messing, bro.

IIRC, all the LSx engines are very similar in external dimensions, and if one can fit any can fit. And me, for performance I prefer the vette ride to the GTO ride, but prefer the GTO ride when it comes to daily driver or family mobile

If I could come up with the Vibes stats, I would. But who cares??
Can't be more than 100HP. Slow ass car is perfect for the girl.

Actually all the ecotec engines or so that GM is like putting out for these kinda cars like the Vibe, the HP they put out is like 140 or so. pretty good if you ask me for like a 2.2 or 2.0

Mr. Luos
08-17-2005, 11:59 PM
This Vibe has a Toyota motor in it.
Keep in mind, I am at 5400 feet above sea level, so a slow NA car seems a LOT slower here.

I dont see how.. when I went over and through the mountains to get into California from Nevada, I was up there too and eh..didnt seem any different.

Really??

Man does mine change going from here to Iowa.
The Trans Am literally picks up 50 RWHP. No lie.
My corrected dyno = 376.8
Uncorrected dyno = 322

Hm.. kinda interesting, cause I remember seeing that I was upto 5000+ feet or so and the Lancer didnt feel any different, and btw I had to constantly downshift/upshift and do many turns and keep going up and down, which btw I found EXTREMELY fun. I want to go through that again. Probably wont though till a long time, cant wait when I do go through it again.

Mr. Luos

NA cars lose about a second in their 1/4 times here. Sometimes more.
Kinda scary. No air for them to breath though, so it makes sense.

Duh, a lancer has no power anyway so its got nothing to lose :iceslolan

Actually it's pretty good, never would buy one though or OWN one unless it was given. But you are right 120 HP.. not much, but if Luos says he loses about 50 Hp then I wouldnt have much to HP to go.. so dont know.
