I have heard all the big guys... SLP Loudmouths, Bassani, MagnaFlow, FlowMaster. Even have a guy in my club who has straight pipes with 4" tips. So far, the straight pipes have my vote, but still.. something missing.
I am looking to get the old school glass pack carb sound. Dad ran a '72 fastback with em, and I will never forget the sound.
I want a really mean rumble, something really deep and throaty. Of course, minimal interior drone, and vibration.
Am I looking for the impossible?

Ok, but how? I have the 8, manual.
What set up should I be looking at to achieve it? I figure long headers, JBA?
I am a total newbie when it comes to this stuff. Help a girl out, LOL

Bassani drone too much, I just installed them on a buddies 2005. They sound great, but the drone is a killer around 1900 rpms, when you hit around 2300 the drone is almost gone. My 2 cents.

I hate to tell you this..... but the Carb's actually influenced the sound as well as your dad's cam. We don't have the nice healty cams that the cars came with in the 60's and early 70's. Your just not going to get that tone that your dad's car had. On top of that, I'm sure your dad's car also had a bit more displacement, which also affects the sound.
You can add a pair of cams thou... and you can get a deep sound from your car. You can make it really dirty/nasty sounding, but then you will be running cams that are not leagal. Matter of fact, the Baddest sounding modular I have heard to date is this new Shebly GT 500. From the back, it's what I want my car to sound like. But from the front with the hood open..... that's not what I want.

SilverStang... Thats not a Shelby GT 500.
I think I am way too picky... the sound on that BBR LNR is ok... it sputters too much for my taste, sounds like the timing is off a hair, and blech! when you open the hood. It just doesnt sound as round and I want, and not as smooth.. Thats more of the harley sound, which is GREAT on a chopper, just not on my GT, LMAO
Argh, back to the drawing board.

That's just crazy cams on that car, that's why it sounds like that. They went really aggressive with the cams, and I KNOW it won't pass smog here in California.
I'm gonna vote on something I would normally never vote on, but yestorday, I heard a 05 GT with (somebody shoot me) Flowmaster's on it. It actually sounded damn good.....http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/eek7.gif, and not like every other modular engine I heard it on aka 2v and 4v.......
I am using Magnaflow for my car, but then again, I have a 2v engine. I am switching to SLP, because I want a bit more aggressive sound.
