I have a 2002 Venture with approx 48,000 km on it. I have been offered a one time opportunity to purchase the "Total Plus" extended warranty from GM. This is a 4 year/80 000 km for $2000 CAN. I have had no problems on my van so far and kind of in limbo. Would you take advantage of this offer? I have to make a decision asap.

Exactly what all does it cover and is there any type of deductable? My first instinct would be to let it pass. The intake gasket is between $400-800 USD to replace assuming nothing breaks as result of the leak. And it's not even guaranteed that your vehicle would leak. Most other problems aren't an "epidemic". There are common problems, but most aren't obscenely expensive that you would break even the cost of the warranty. Remember that the Venture and sister vans are probably the 2nd most common minivan on the road next to the Caravan (and family). A cross section of posts here of problems are still very small relative to the total number of the vehicles (let alone the engine and transmission) on the road.

Extended warrantys are like playing the lottery. In most cases you are just paying for something you will not get a return on. However, once in a while one person hits it off big. Do you feel "lucky" to be that person?

Yes I agree. If you had the intake fiasco taken care of then I definitely would pass on it. I have a 02 also and besides the intake problem, it has been no troubles.
