auto transmission s light problem

I'm having a problem with my 91 accord ex auto transmission. I really want to know if I can get some help on this. at times my s light stays on while driving and the transmission turns real sluggish and barely wants to move. The only way to correct this problem is by pulling out the ecu fuses to reset the computer. I jumped the cel connector to see if I get any codes and I do not. I used to get code 1 but changed the o2 sensor and everything is fine but at times my s light just stays on in normal mode and car barely wants to move. I sometimes hear a clicking sound at the shift lever when the car is turned on acc as if the problem is coming from there. How can I find out what the problem is, do you think it is the transmission computer that is no good, some type of solenoid, if so which one and if I can unplug it to bypass this issue? I want to try anything to fix this. Car has alot of miles (190k)

thanx in advance

Well, first off, stop resetting the ECU. There is a problem, the lights are on to tell you that. Reseting the ECU, doesn't eliminate the problem, it just turns the lights off temporarily. Check out the FAQ up at the top of the Accord/tsx forum.

First scan the ECU for codes (covered in the FAQ). But I'm guessing it is your TCU. There is a section in the FAQ for this as well.

I think what he means to say is that he is resetting the s light not the cel light. When you pull the back up fuse it will turn the s light off and the car will drive normal for a little while and then the problem will come back.

excoupe23 your problem is your transmission computer located on the passenger floorboard under the carpet up against the firewall.

Some people will try to tell you it's your vss, but it's not. One way to tell for sure is to put the car in park when the s light is flashing and try to shift into any gear with out pressing the brake pedal, make sure the E brake is on and working before you do this.If it will go into gear without pressing the brake pedal it is definitly your trans computer.
also the reason your car barely wants to move when the light is flashing is because your in third gear... If your at a dead stop and try to take off your really starting in third gear...drop and down to D1 and it should move fine... Let us know what happens...Good luck

thanks 4 the info I will get another tcu to c what happens b/c I can get one for 40.00 or so. I actually did get a code when I jumped the cel and now it is showing code 31. IN my haynes manual it is telling me it is a/t fi signal b (automatic transaxle vehicles). I just don't know what that means but I know it is electrical.

Make sure you disconnect your battery before changing the units... Let us know how it goes. Also make sure the new tcu you are getting is for a 90-91.

good news is that I fixed the problem and like u guys were saying it was the tcu. Car drives fine now and I got it for only 50.00 from the junkyard. I think the reason mine went bad and others as well is b/c the placement of the computers are prone to getting in contact with water and when I pulled my old tcu out I saw alot of oxidation on the contacts, and rust on the bottom of the case and I know that if water gets in contact with the electrical resistors on the board it will fry it. I put something around it to protect it this time.
