I have read all the other Torsion Bar threads and it is clear the rear mounts are the main problem. I too am having the heavy clunking noise under the pedals. But it looks like the front mounts are severely deterierated. Has anyone replaced the front mounts? Is it hard to do?

I replaced my torsion bar mounts...it wasn't hard. The hardest part for me was getting the old ones out...they were rusted bad. What I did was looses the bolts first, then used a floor jack to raise the torsion bar, took the old ones out, then throw the new ones in. Lower the jack, then tighten the new ones down. Be careful to not keep your fingers in the pinch points, for if the jack would happen to slip, your hand or finger could be crushed. They were very cheap, and came with the new bolts and nuts. There are some that bolt up from the bottom, but I recommend getting the ones that have the bolt already welded to them so that you just slip it in the hole and it is already in place.

I more curious about the front mount. It looks like the torsion bar goes into a bushing in the lower control arm.

You have a 1996, they don't have the torsion mounts like the 1994 and older.

Yeh, I ready that a couple times before. I just thought it had to be the torsion bar mounts because I feel it banging under my feet. I have torsion bars. Is the problem I keep reading about not applicable to my 96. By the way I just bought this blazer a few weeks ago and I would be completely lost without everyone's help, especially you BlazerLT. God what did we ever do before the internet???

also check your body mounts.
The hoos washer clunk seems to be below the floor when it isn't.

I had a '92 Blazer with the same clunking under the pedals. I found that not only were both of my rear torsion bar mounts bad, both upper and lower ball joints on both sides were about to buy the farm. I got to the ball joints and torsion bar mounts just in time, changed them all, and the clunking stopped. Couldn't tell you to this day which problem was causing the noise because I fixed everything at once, but if it isn't your mounts, look at your front suspension.
