$500 ticket = shitty night

$5 million to be spent on fighting Sacramento street racing. http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/05/576.asp
The racing scene in Sacramento is, I would say, pretty big. Some nights there are 300 people and some there are 30. Some nights there are fast ass cars racing and some nights nobody races. Tonight was turning out to be a pretty good night…until the red and blue showed up.
There was about 150-200 people tonight and some good races. No wanna be gangsters to fuck it up and idiots doing stupid ass shit in their SUVs. A sick ass (supposedly low 12 seconds on low boost) 300zx and an EVO MR where lined up when I see the red and blue lights at the end of the track. I hop in my car and take off to the left, but there were 2 cops there too. So I make a sharp right and follow a bunch of other cars through the parking lot and end up back on the main strip. Then I realize what’s going on…they had us blocked in and are gonna give it to us all with no lube.
After about 15 minutes of everybody frantically trying to find a way out (only one way in, only one way out) the cops move in. Guns drawn they order everybody out of their cars and to sit on the hoods. Then they announce that everybody is getting a ticket for watching street races, which is a $500 fine for the first offence and a $1,000 fine for the second. So it takes about 30-45 minutes for them to get to me and they give my friend and I our tickets. After that we left.
There had to be about 10 cop cars in this one little industrial area. It’s like a small circle with a long street in the middle. They had dogs sniffing people out of the bushes, garbage cans, etc. They had a full blown road block at the entrance to the industrial area with spike strips, flairs and shit.
No more street racing for me! Or at least for a couple of weeks. :evillol:

Why would you call BS, that doesn't sound in anyway unbelievable.
Eps, sorry to hear that man, that definantly sucks, but as Tat said, at least they didn't impound or destroy your car or give you additional tickets for mods/racing etc. It's reasons like these I don't go to the Philly racing scene anymore.
Yeah and the link doesn't work.

Oops, I left out a “p” at the end of the link. It should work now.
I always thought it was a stupid place to race for exactly the reason of only being one way in and out. Usually the cops just come by and break it up, maybe pull over a car or two who are being over enthusiastic about running from the cops and are acting like they just killed the president. The city just recently passed a law that says it’s illegal to even watch a street race, so this gave the cops ammo to actually do something, and last night just happened to be the night they used the new law.
Nobody’s car got towed that I know of. They where going to do a full vehicle inspection on every car, but I heard one of them say they didn’t have enough time. Some of the cops were pretty cool, making jokes and shit, and then of course you have the assholes.
I’ll fight the ticket and end up beating it, and I’ll probably be out there again in a couple weeks.

Check out the Mischief Series. When they inspect your car, what does that mean? Checking for cats? Or is nitrous, turbos, etc illegal in Cali?

congratulations on being quite misinformed...
Though in ruarl area's and small towns cops dont give a chit...driving through orlando or daytona, they try to enforce 25ft stereo laws, they will pull you over if you windows are excessively black (especially at night), and everyonce and a while he will be a dick enough to glance under the vehicle for mufflers and cats...they are required by law though there is no exaust loudness violations, but you can get a disturbing the peace ticket.

It was pretty nuts the last few times I went down there, but that was 2 years ago. After my friend hit a person running on foot from the cops, my car almost getting hit by 16 year olds in their mom's corollas, me having to talk the cops out of ticketing 10 of us and impounding 3 cars, and then waiting on a goddamn industrial street until 5am for a tow truck for my friend's car....I kinda lost my taste for the whole 'scene'.

the whole street racing "scene" was over exploited in 2f2f...back when i was 14 we used to hang out outside of foot ball games and infront of the mall and we had a corse around town...but we, by no way, had 1/4 the people or did half the gay shit in that movie...they show at least 2,000 people and there isnt even that many down in orlando or cocoa...anything over 20-30 or 10-15 cars i get the fuck out...now we just race down backwoods roads

California spent $5 million for 10 cops to come and set up an ambush? Clever budgeting. Why does it cost all that money to send 10 cops to a street race if the cops were already on-duty? Are donuts that expensive?
I want my f*ckin tax money refunded to me.

Did you even read the article?
Yup, read it. In fact here's a quote from it...
"The money will be used to form an undercover "Drag-Net" unit to stop motorists who appear to be driving modified cars."
and this...
"...to train other departments how to look out for what they believe to be tell-tale signs of illegal modification such as window tinting, large spoilers, extra gauges or racing stickers."
LMAO - anyone on AF can spot those things on a car, it didn't take $5 million to learn how. And none of the things they just mentioned above have anything to do with high performance - which means they'll be pulling over ricers with no engine mods. My extremely smog illegal CRX has none of those things, just a built JDM B16. But they won't pull me over because I don't have a large spoiler and racing stickers.
...and they still haven't caught any more freeway shooters. You know? The assholes driving around killing people on the freeways here in California? Isn't that more illegal than "appearing to drive a modified car"? How much money did they delegate to catching them? None - they dont even have an "undercover "Drag-net"" to catch the murderers, just one to catch kids who "appear to be driving modified cars".
Numbnuts.
Not you. The cops.

They can pull you over for having "racing" stickers? What is the difference between a racing sticker and a cruising sticker. Guess cops don't yet grasp the concept that stickers don't add hp.

When, in fact, it is legal to drive a modified car....
What happened to "Innocent until proven guilty," in this country?
Maybe we should all group together and spam insurance companies and police departments copies of the US constitution....

ptshhh, wrong...there is no laws anywhere that say you cannot modify your vehicle into w/e ever you want as long as these modifications comply with state safety and smog standards...
so basically, at least in florida, if you have a seat, seat belt (if made after '74ish), brake lights a certian height of the ground that can be seen from a certian distance, a way to signal a turn (mechanical or otherwise), and a smog legal engine along with licence, registration, and PIP insurance...it is road legal...
then htey have laws about tinted windows only allowing to be 35% on the sides and 20% in the rear but who says you have to have windows?
not all states are the same but as far as i know there is no state that prohibits any modification what-so-ever.

That doesn't mean having a modified car is illegal. That just means they'll pull you over to hassle and inspect you if you have any of the things they mention (big spoiler, tinted windows etc). To paraphrase directly from the quote:
They'll stop you if your car appears to be modified. Once they pull you over they'll inspect to find the truly illegal things like no cat or non-exempt performance parts.

yes because in all actuality it will be easier to proce a ricer illegal, dryer vent intake system and stock exaust with cut off muffler and cat is a lot eaiser to prove illegal than EMS and internal modifiactions making the SMOG ratings illegal.
