Has anyone actually replaced their own clutch and/or timing belt?

I'm right at 100K on my '99 SH, and I'd like to know what kind of nightmare I'd be getting myself into by replacing the clutch and timing belt myself. Visions of having to jack the engine up to get the clutch out or something like that. Anyone have any experience with this?

If you have never done it before I would suggest taking it to a shop. This is not a job for a do it your selfer oil change on the weekend guy.
If you do have decent mechanical skills and have the right tools/ equipent its no task at all. just takes time

SH's are a lot harder to work on than non-SH's because of all the ATTS hardware underneath. Mechanics charge a lot more to work on an SH so I'd suggest doing it yourself if you have the patience and the correct tools. But if you don't have any experience it's going to be a huge pain in the ass because you have to remove a whole bunch of extra hardware just to get to the clutch. :2cents:

Why does your profile say you have an Accord?

Oh, god. You are sick with this gay shit. You're obsessed with discussing your homosexuality on an automotive website. You changed your avatar when you realized you're a freak, but for some morbid reason I dug it up. Here it is:

Get over yourself man, you're a sick person. I feel like crawling out of my skin every time you direct a post at me, you're that disgusting.
Scary shit.

ok i think thats enough about Gohan being gay alright this is a AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITE people please talk about the subject that is at hand please...and im pretty sure Gohan isnt gay he was just looking in somebodys profile to see what kind of car they have because THATS WHAT A PROFILE IS MADE FOR!!! Looking into something that was made for you to look at doesn't make you gay...now back to cars please...

your first post was as irrelevant as Gohan's sexual orientation, it added NOTHING relevant whatsoever basically what you said was "I dont know what im talking about"... so please do talk about the subject at hand...

bottom line... if you have no experience with timing belts and you dont want to run the risk of bending your valves cause you dont know what your doing... spend the cash and get it done by a shop. Dont ignore it either and wait to squeeze those extra thousand miles off your belt if it needs to be done. Same with the clutch, if you dont know what your doing, have a shop do it.... or find a friend who does know what they are doing and have them do that and learn how to do it from them.... for a good price... my friend is doing both my timing belt and clutch in the next month for my paintball gun.... now that is worth it
