About a month ago I went to downshift and found my car was stuck in neutral. I recently got this car and the transmission was rebuilt before it fell into my hands and the clutch was replaced when the tranny was rebuilt. After 2 weeks of waiting for news from the garage I'm told that some dumbass before me put a fwd clutch in my car when the tranny was rebuilt. Yeah not cool. I ended up having to buy a new clutch and pay to have it installed. If there is a dumbass hall of fame on this site I think this guy deserves a spot. ...I dunno maybe he bought the clutch because it looked pretty...

LoL......I was going to say that I had never heard of a special clutch for an AWD tranny....I thought maybe I had learned something new. The thought was just erased from my memory by scottsee. :smokin: Go back to your mechanic and bash his face in with a lead pipe.

Lol... that blows man. I would go down there and shove that new clutch up his ass. Thats why I do all the work on my car. A mechanic could tell a customer anything and unless the customer knows their way around cars, they would just believe it. My grandma got shafted over a starter and new battery. Turned out the starter wasnt even looked at. She was wondering what was up after they "replaced the starter" in like 20 mins.

I just had my started replaced about a month ago (thats twice now in 9 months) by a dealer and it is still squealing. I'm at the point where I won't buy anything without a warranty so I can at least recoup when stuff goes wrong (and it always does).

I don't know why but, I laughed my ass off when I read the second post. I know I should feel like a dumbass but I cant help it lol. The mechanic "explained" to me that there are "special" springs in an awd clutch that are not in a 2wd clutch. He "explained" to me that in an awd car more strain is put on the clutch and tranny from wholeshots and such because in a 2wd car you would just burn out but in an awd car it grips. He told me that the clutch put in was ment for a 2wd car not an awd car and therefore took a shit earlier than normal(I had the clutch for about 35,000 miles). So if I'm understanding correctly...2wd/awd it doesn't matter? A clutch is a clutch? Oh boy mr. mechanic is f***ing lucky he is on vacation right now.

:1: The best way to gaurd yourself from scenerios like this, is to consistently read up on as many tech articles as you possibly can. Educate yourself with at least the basics of our cars, so that people like Mr. AWD-Special-Clutch can get extremely embarassed once you start schooling them. As a side note, after reading Kevin's extensive write-ups on EGT guages, I actually want to go out there and pick on someone who thinks monitoring their EGT gauge will actually help prevent an engine meltdown. :icon16: It's all about knock, right Kev? :worshippy :smokin:

I just talked to my brother, who happens to work at this same garage, and he assured me that the clutch they pulled out of my car was mangled and torn to hell. He said that what the "master" mechanic probably ment is that some clutches are more heavy duty than others. He said that he compared the clutch they ordered from mitsubishi to the one they took out of my car and he said there was a noticable difference. He said that there were springs inside of springs and the clutch itself looked bigger and more complex.

As far as the aftermarket ones go. There is no difference between the awd, and the fwd clutch and pressure plate. However there is a difference between the flywheels. Did the clutch they removed happen to be painted yellow? heh
