Mileage make it better

I got 24 hwy with my 302 ford grand maq 89. I filled the tires to 44 psi, shut off the engine if at a light longer then 1 minute. Lately I have been experimenting with rubbing alcohol to see if it gets better mileage. At 2.74 a gallon now, its insane!! I am going to be heating with wood this winter I think for sure.

2.74 a gallon is CHEAP , i am paying over 4 bucks a gallon here now . $1.06 per litre. $1.06 x 4.54 litres(imperial gallon) = $4.28 a gallon (3.78 liters to a u.s. gallon still equals roughly $4.01 a us gallon)

Well lets face it gas isn't cheap, so whats a good way to get the most out of our mileage with out completly overhauling the engine. I would be fine and dandy with 18 city. which as of now city for me is about 16 out of a 4.8 Ltr. so it doesnt sound to unreasonable. What I can't figure out is my dads 2001 WS6 Trans Am with a LS1 is pushing like 19 with it. Our trucks are fairly arrowdynamic (not as much as the TA of course) but still we should be getting a lil better than the 14-16 we're getting.

I added the max presure to my tires, 44 cold psi. Most US tires say 35 max, but if they run nice and even, I dought very much that 40 or 44 would be dangerous. But...higher psi's mean less footprint which means less stopping ablity. But I use Mich's so, I dont have any probs with stopping. Also dont leave it idle at stops longer then 1 minute. I got 22 city with a 302 grand marque, even better then the EPA est. (1989) Slow starts, driving 55-65 hwy no faster. I am trying using alcohol in the tank to see if I can save any gas. I messed around with a water injection, but didnt see any improv. But water injection appearently has been proven to save mileage. I think I even read the feds said it did save some, but only modest at best mileage. The feds po poed it since they saw the sniffer test didnt like it. }Think about it...we all know that on a wet, very very humid cool day, cars run faster and better. I injected plain water (diverted the WW hose into the AC) in the dirty side of the air cleaner, on a long trip, didnt really see any improv, but only a lab would really be able to know for sure. But with 24 Hwy going 65 in a 89 FORD VIC clone, I figured I was doing great already. I use a KN air filter, and the car has "ram air" or something like it, already. Any suggestions are wanted!!!!!
