seal to throttle body

Okay, so the other day I am cruising down the road following my friend's golf when he takes off. So naturally, I decide to floor it. I am almost to the top of 3rd gear when I let off the gas to take a turn but, oddly enough my car decides to keep accelerating. So I get it home, via tow truck, and I oiled everything up and it kept getting stuck. Finally me and my brother decide to pull out the throttle body. When we did we found a rubber seal inside the intake tube that seals to the throttle body. The wierd thing about the rubber seal though is that it looks as if it was sized too big for the throttle body and was cut and rigged to fit. We came to the conclusion that the rubber seal was getting sucked into the throttle body and geting the plate inside stuck open. I took the seal out and put everything back together. I figure the metal gasket will seal enough without the rubber pos. So my question...what is with the rubber seal? Is it even suppose to be there? Should I try to replace it? My car has been running fine for the past 2 days without it and I haven't noticed a lack of power. I would just like to be sure. Thank you for any help or advice you can give me.

Yes, there are 2 seals on the shaft. Replace them, as they can cause a boost leak also. Be sure to check this out:

Hmm... Thank you but, I think that may be the wrong thing. The seal I am talking about is rubber tubbing, pretty much like tubbing used for the intercooler, and it went in between the metal tube connecting to the throttle body and opening into the throttle body. It had a little lip on it and it slid down inside the metal tube before the throttle body. I am sorry for my lack of approriate names so here is the best I can do with a keyboard lol.

I know there is also a metal gasket that goes where I am talking about and that IS NOT what I am talking about.

So are you saying it looks like a seal for the throttle plate? It almost sounds like a piece of intercooler tubing broke off and got sucked in, but if you don't have any boost leaks that wouldn't be the case. Whats the diameter of the seal? How thick is the wall of the seal? HAve you taken off any ic piping lately and slid it back on perhaps it could have sliced a piece off?

Im alittle confused here as well. Are you talking about where the elbow goes to the tb?

So you have your UIP, then your elbow, your metal gasket plus a rubber one, and then your throttle body? If so that does NOT belong there
If that is not right take some pics and post them so we know where you are talking about

Yeah that is correct mitsu_eclipse95gst. Except the rubber seal actually slips partly inside the elbow then it has a lip on it that seals to the throttle body. I figured that this did not belong there because it didn't even fit properly and I removed it as soon as I found it. My car feels like it has alot more pickup now so the rubber seal is going into the trash. Thank you for the help.
