Umm, I'm not sure what your "other post" is. What year is your car? Does it have the factory deck in it? If your car is old enough to have the mechanical balance or volume knobs, then there is a good chance the problem is in the potentiometer for one of them. When you turn the volume up high enough, the voltage is sufficient to make arc its way across (in the case of a problem in the balance circuit) or the traces are worn for the lower volume (in the case of a bad volume potentiometer). If your car is newer and has the electronic controls for balance, I'd suspect a bad solder joint somewhere for the same reason as given above for a bad balance switch. The bad joint could be in the deck, in an amplifier, or at the speaker.

Hmmm, my '93 SHO had an electronic radio, no knobs for volume, bass, treble, balance, or fader. Just buttons from everything. If yours is the same way, then you won't have potentiometers to worry about. Therefore, I'd suspect a bad solder joint, bad electrolytic capacitor somewhere, or possible a bad amplifier IC internal to the deck. Any chance you know someone with a similar deck you could substitute in temporarily to see if the problem goes away with a new deck?
