This is really pissing me off!

Here's my problem:

Sometimes (about 45 percent of the time) when I turn the ignition key (1993 Camaro V6) the security light fails to shut off and the engine will not crank. I have to wait about 5 minutes and try again. Sometimes it'll turn over no problem and sometimes I have to wait again. This is really annoying, and I cannot find anyone who knows where the problem is. Anyone out there know how to disable this problem?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Ben

PS - for fun, my car also makes a winding noise on acceleration, this has not caused me any problems thus far, but if any of you know where to look to solve that mystery, I would appreciate that too.

The car also surges about every 5 seconds when stopped at a light. I replaced the air idle control. That did not do the trick. Any thoughts on that would also be welcomed.

Thanks again

does your camaro have the vats security system?

If the security light isn't shutting off it's probably the Vehicle Anti-Theft System (VATS) not allowing it to start. If you have another set of keys and you haven't tried those try that first otherwise the system might be going but I would think if the system was going to fail it would just stop working period. It might just be that they key you have isn't showing the correct resistance so the VATS doesn't think it's the right key...

Would it be easier to get a new key or to replace the resistor?

I don't know I have never had this problem so I've never dealt with it. Find out if it's the key first though, try your spare set to see if it does the same thing if so you might have to have the whole system fixed...
