Transmission wont shift into 3rd or 4th gear

Sorry, might have posted this on the wrong board instead of here. I have a 98 Pontiac Sunfire 2.4L, that suddenly last week, decided that it didn't want to shift into 3rd or 4th gear anymore. Any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. Do I have any other options then a new tranny?

It could be any number of problems. Take the car to a tranny shop and have them diagnose it for you. The dealer will automatically want to sell you a new transmission. It could be as simple as sticking or bad solenoid valves that are not tremendously expensive to change.
