no more sport appearance package?

im lookin at the pontiac site and the photo gallery has pics of sport appearance package, but when i "build my pontiac" the option isnt available....even when i choose red black or silver exterior color. the package is still listed under specs tho... anybody wanna clear this up?

The SAP package is a dealer add on and can be ordered through your dealer or favorite GM parts supplier.

I dont get the 50 grand part, do you think getting a real GTO is going to cost 50 grand? if its the whole money thing just make sure you have deep pockets because when the insurance people look at the vin and see it's a GTO they are going to take you to the cleaners. Add a new car payment along with full insurance as well as you being a "kid" and top it off with high insurnace you better have some money.

Since my GTO was a "package" in 72 I list it as a LeMans on the insurance, and aso being old insurance is a cheaper then my 14second Jeep grand Cherokee.

The GTO is true to the original 1960s muscle car formula of plunking a big V8 in a brawny midsize rear-drive coupe.

The first GTO was a boxy 1964 Tempest coupe with a GTO option package.

I have to find my GTO book but I think your wrong, the 64 was not a package, it was a "GTO" not untill 72 did it turn into a option package, tho I have to a little background. I know mostly 68-74 GTOs. But I may be wrong it might have been a package, I will get back with ya.

You kinda right, but your still wrong, sure a brawny V8, but the problem is this, the man "Deloren" refused to put anything less then a 389 in the GTO that he thunk, made, dreamed and sold and ran as a 389+ PMD powered car.

In the day of Hemis PMD came up with a PMD 350 that was hot, very hot, it would have smacked the snot out of the Hemi, but Deloren killed it because because his Idea was to have a "Big Injun" under the hood, not a "chevy" number, see where he was going?

So no we take his Idea and say, screw it, lets take an Idea from the Aussis, and stab in a 350ish SBC...

I have allways been on the defending side, running a PMD engine and haveing so dumass tell me that the engine is weak because "it's a Pontiac" has allways sparked problems.

I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about the engine, and I have read alot about who Deloren was, he had alot of "dream cars" that never made it, and some that made it half way in.

Deloren wanted to keep the GTO all pontiac, he fought back SBC and BBCs being added to the mix. He layed it out as a team effort, the team being Pontiac.

GM had no rear-drive American car it could modify to create a new GTO, so it used the Monaro. Behind the car is GM Product Chief Bob Lutz, who felt there had been far too long a wait for the return of the fabled GTO, which injects Pontiac with some needed excitement. The Monaro and it's cousin the GTO are built by GM.

Dont be sold on what you read here by other people, I read the HOT ROD history of the SBC and everything that was learned from the 50's SBC to the 90's Roller SBC was the base for this engine, sure Mr P will sell you that the mesurments are not the same as the origanl SBC but thats spliting hairs. even if you knew nothing about engines just looking at this new engine has SBC written all over it, it even has the same intake mounting system that is prone to hot oil splash. It looks nothing like any other block but at a glance it comes off as a SBC, it shares more with a SBC then any other engine Olds, Buick, Cad, Pon, have nothing to do with this engine, but the SBC does.

Even if we were to say this engin had nothing to do with chevy (and it does) then you would still have to argue that it's NOT A PONTIAC ENGINE!

Again just because it's not made anymore does not make it right, thats like takeing a lemas and slaping a GTO frontend on it with some GTO lettering and calling it a GTO.....ITS NOT....

I get "folks" comming up to my grand Cherokee asking everything about it, from the rare rims to the MPI Magnum 360, then a raw drop at the under 45,000 miles on it........

In no way do I want to come off bragging here, but if we were parked side by side how many people do you think would come see my GTO to your ChevyAussGTO? You might get more because the ford guys might take it as a 90's mustang!

I know how bad you want this car to be a GTO, I feel for you, I do, I feel bad that you got sold a "fake".

The way GM is they could have sold this car as a 442, or a SS, or even as Skylark.

That brings up another question, what if they started pumping out those names on your car?

The engine is not a Chevy engine period, and no matter how much you would like it to be it isn't and you can't change that. Look, I work with in GM Powertrain, the LS2 is used in Chevys, Pontiacs and the Caddy, the differences are the engine calibrations, rear end and transmission gearing.

I certaintly don't consider HOT ROD and authority, they are the same folks telling the world the new V8 GP and Impala SS are powered by an LS3 which won't be out until 2008 and won't be powering those vehicles. They should have said an LS4.

1 - Cause Pontiac doesn't make an engine anymore, but, the ECM calibrations are Pontiac.

2 - Nobody ragged on my Regal GS which was built in Canada nor did anyone rag on my YukonXL which was built in Mexico, so why rag on the GTO?

I said Pontiac doesn't make engines anymore, they buy them from Powertrain. Pontiac certainly makes the GTO, I have one and it says GTO all over it, it says GTO on my insurance policy, it says GTO on my Michigan title so it is a Pontiac GTO.

For myself the browns are only the browns if they are based in OH, I see the GTO in the same light, not only do they NOT have a pontiac engine in them, they are not even from the United States.

Sure Hot Rod mag is not 100% correct and I really ate the mag I,got tired of seeing cars that normal people could never build without selling a body part, and the RAPE of pontiac cars with chevys in them, on top of that I would have to think it has more chevys then "Chevy" mags.

LOL, you know the junk yards really are going to make so money, think about it, lets say a 2005 GMC 1 ton that gets washed away, i'm sure if the engine was not running that it can be saved, so you have a duramax with a one ton rear and or front axle that are ripe for the picking.

If I had money I would get a 6x6 and head down and find me a 1 ton overdrive trans for my GTO. or just buy some of those trucks (I say trucks because they would fair better, and sell faster then a car) take them back, pull the plugs drian the engines and retune them back up, and just rip out the rug and rubber mat it.

I know when VA had Gastone I went to a few yards and seen water loged cars and trucks, I ave to tell you that water is no joke, some of those cas/truscks look like the got snow balled with bean bags, the bodys were crushed but not where the body supports wear at, strange damage for sure..
