Hi there. My sister is selling her 1999 Ford Contour (hopefully to me) and we were wondering what a fair asking price would be. It has about 69,000 miles, is in good condition, and the front breaks were recently replaced. She was thinking about trying to get $4000 for it- does this sound fair? No one in the family knows much about cars, so any advice you guys have would be appreciated.

Hmmmm. How nice is she. The Kelly Blue Book value is probably about 2900 so if she is nice maybe she would take 2500. But 4000 I don't know. If she has taken real care of this car maybe a little more but come on family is family. Just talk a little bit and see.

kbb comes up at $5,900.00, thats basics, with 4cyl auto. SE though, dunno what model yours is or what motor..

Look for yourself at

www.kbb.com

I think 4,000.00 is too low, you could get atleast 5,500

Maybe I should have specified. I used the private party value, If she were going to sell it to you it would be nice if it was around 3000. But the suggested retail value is up there like the person above said. Gas prices are going to soar too and it would seem to me like it probably get decent gas mileage so she might want a little more for.
