Throttle senser

I have a 1992 toyota 4 wh dr pickup and all of a sudden I lost all of my power on the road. It starts, runs and idles fine but when i get on an incline i haven't got any power. Could anyone give me an idea what is wrong with it. Could it be a bad throttle senser causing it? I don't know the purpose of the throttle senser?
