Clutch Hydraulic Problem

I have a 1979 MGB and I'm having problems with the clutch. When I press it once, the clutch doesn't disengage and doesn't have much resistance. But when I pump it a few times it has more resistance and the clutch will disengage. Also if I pump the brakes a few times it will fix it also. It's been bled by my semi-knowledgable step-father, and that made a very small change. Has anybody had this problem? If so, how'd you fix it?

Sounds like the internal seals in the clutch master cylinder and the brake master cylinder are shot. Rebuilding or replacing are the only options.

Agree. Suggest rebuilding the master cylinder first. BE SURE TO BLEED IT COMPLETELY & CORRECTLY! If you still have problems then you'll need to go to the hydraulic slave cylinder beside the transmission and rebuild that, too. Again, bleed it completely.
Good luck.
