Hey ya' ll, I've got a question that I am at a loss to answer. My car just recently started making a really strange noise when I drive it. It is making kind of a high pitch squeeling/screeching sound while I'm driving it.
What I have noticed is that if I take off at a real slow speed, and maintain steady acceleration, I can get into 2nd gear without any strange sounds. After I hit 2nd gear, 40 mph, and above 2000 RPM the squeeling starts. If I take off and have the pedal to the floor, it starts the noise right away. At first I thought it may be the transmission or a noisy belt, but now I am not so sure. I have checked and tightened all the belts and the transmission was recently rebuilt before I bought the car. Aside from stiff shifting once in a while, it drives fine. I checked the trans fluid and it is red and at the proper level. Also the noise seems to be coming from under the hood vs under the car. I also just checked the oil level and it is about a quart low, filling it didn't change anything.
I also removed the A/C belt thinking that it could be a bad compressor, no go. Could this be caused by the turbo charger or something else? I want to make sure that it is nothing major as it is now my daily driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated in trying to fix this! Thanks in advance!

Reply: By now I am sure you found your problem but I will add that I had this on my 91 350 SDL and it was the alternator. The winding loosened from the shaft. I replaced the alternator.

Actually I have not fixed it yet. But, I will check the alternator this weekend to see if that is the culprit. Thanks for the reply!
