Superchargers

I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with supercharging thier V6 firebirds. I was just curious if other mods must be done for the supercharger to function properly, or can it just be assembled and put right in? Do you think there worth the investment? Also, does it change the sound of the car? I've been told it does. Thanks!

If you go with a carborated supercharger then you probably can bolt up and get some linkage and run,,there are a few things you should take into consideration when thinking of getting one,,they like low compression engines and ussually like to give the engine midrange to upper end power so you may look at your cam ,,and your stall converter and your gears to get optimal performance. The sound you are looking for is the winning sound of the supercharger reving up ,,but you probably wont get thet out of the supercharger you want to use for your street application,,,It sounds hot though,,,If you want that reving sound go with a pete Jackson gear drive for your timming,,it replaces the timming chain with a gear to gear drive and it sounds bad ass!!

If you're considering forced induction on a V6, then I'd recommend a turbo. A single turbo can push you to nearly, if not more, then 300hp. Gives out alot more power than a supercharger would on a sixer. Plus, the sound of a turbo spooling up is just jaw dropping.

last time i checked turbos dont reduce power, they only make power and plus they are driven off the exhaust unlike the supercharger which is belt driven (which takes some power for it to make power), nothing like it did back in the day but it still take a lill bit of power away from the engine to make more power.

Depends on how hard you use the turbo.
If it is on a daily driver, just stay outta boost.
They don't reduce low end power, they just don't give you low end power. Most turbo set-ups that are designed well anymore have little to no lag.

how do i stay outta boost when i do get one, is it an installed switch or something or is it based off how hard i gas it.

Lower RPM's, lower boost.

That and you could get a boost controller. Apexi makes a really nice one.

a good name brand turbo and waste gate will last yrs if ur just driving on the street with lower boost. but nothing lasts forever. \,,/

I heard it was way easier to get a supercharger, because they make so many that will fit right, and that there are hardly any turbos that can be put on without some custom work done. Also, the supercharger will take probly 100 or so hp to run off the belt but you will gain about twice that, so it's really a good deal.

this folder is about supercharger and l would like to ask a question about it.. first of all, l am not good at cars. l just know how to drive. l got a 97 firebird formula. and few days ago, my neighbour asked me, '' this is not normal v8 engine noise. is there anythingelse on it?'' and l said that l didnt know. my wife is working for ford motor company as an operation manager and she says that it might be supercharger but we are not sure. the car noise is to loud. when you hit the accelerate the car screams. but it is a good noise. it is gonna be a stupid questin but l wanna ask anyway, do you think that it's supercharger? and also how many horsepower do l have?? l just want you to guess guys..

If you've got a supercharger, then you would have setup going to your intake that would look like this:

But if you can follow the piping from your air filter, right up to the intake of your engine, then you have no supercharger nor turbocharger. But pics would help so as to be able to answer your question better. As for your HP, if you do in fact have no supercharger, then you would have around 275 HP.

u got a video camera u can record it running and then rev it once or twice, make sure u have the volume up good, then ask john about a place that hosts videos (im sure he knows one being a mod and all) then we can click download and listen.

Mine would cost $5200 if I installed it myself.
An STS turbo set-up can be had for cheaper, but it is the rear mount. Some people don't like them, but they seem to work.

hi doodad. that part is crap! the install link talks about how it works. Its just a peice of metal that is SUpossed to make the air "SPIN" or something giving u boost? NO WAAY! but if u have $70 to burn, try it and 'See for your self'. Sorrie aboot jumpin the post. \,,/

What kinda noise u wanna make? A CAI w/cone filters makes the motor sound like a Hoover on steriods.LOL! Lets see, the exhuast can be improved with a less restrictive Converter, a better muffler etc. Exhuast work cost more than the CAI but the two kinda work hand in hand, more air in more air out, more HPs and the engine can finally breathe. \,,/

In addition to a CAI, one of the best intake mods for a LT1 is a Granatelli MAF sensor. GMAF for short. There are two versions - regular and cold air intake tuneable.

you know, race car's engine sounds.. my car is good.. even when the windows are all closed, when l hit the accelerator, it makes a big noise but l want more:) when l hit the accelerator, l want everybody to wake up:D and also what does CAI mean? and what excatly should l do?

Mine made 376.8 RWHP before I took the motor out. Stock mine made 310 RWHP or so, never dyno'd it stock.
I had basic bolt-ons plus a more aggressive cam. Not a huge one, but fairly good sized.
I have not added a turbo or a supercharger.
Gonna be a LOT more power very soon.

And like the others said....that turbo thing in the link is CRAP. Do not spend the money on that.

hey, if your car is making a screaming noise, it may sound cool but may not necessarily be good. I've seen that problem before and it ended up being the tranny.
