I have a 01 aurora which I can't seem to get the electric gas cap door to work. I've replaced the button on the drivers door and and latch on the gas cap door and still doesn't work. The trunk button works fine. Anybody have any suggestions

Yeah, don't you hate where they put those buttons? I'm always accidentaly relese the fuel door on my 2002. But...hmm, if you replaced the button, and the latch, the problem would be somewhere in between maybe. I think there's a fuse somewhere. I'd take the latch out and hook up a voltmeter to verify that any current is getting to latch. Or, perhaps you have a short somewhere. Good luck, I know GM isn't very helpful, especially to us 2nd Gen owners.

OK, I'm looking at the manual for my 02 right now. There are 2 microrelays in the rear seat fuse box:
Relay 47: Fuel Tank Door Lock
Relay 50: Fuel Tank Door Release
Well, getting to these is not real easy, it shouldn't be too hard. And relays are quite easy to pull out and replace. Just make sure your get the right one so you don't fry the system.
Good Luck

The Trunk release works fine, so I switched the two relays which are the same and it didn't make a difference, the gas door still won't work. I took the pastic cover off the relay and pushed the points together with my hand and it worked fine. It makes me think that its somewhere between the door and the relay. Any other suggestions?

OK. I don't mean to offend you or anything. I'm not at all questioning your intelegence.....
But...did you try the manual release from the trunk? I have the service manual for the 02. But it would work fine on the 01. I have a whole page about the gas door ect...I'll post it online if you would like.
Since the door works fine when you manually create the circuit, I'm guessing that the fuse the powers the unlocking mechanism has not blown? I dunno, maybe there is a short downline from the relay.

By the way, you should take a look at the RIM (Rear Integration Module). That module controls the fuel door release as well as a few other things. Maybe the electrical connection is loose. It's right behind the rear seats, under the back deck. You can access them from the trunk.
OK...I'm gonna go back to the service manual to see if I can come up with anything.
PS. When you have the ca turned off and press the fuel door release button, can you hear the solenoid clicking?

I have been opening the gas door with the manual pull cord when I need gas and that is fine. I'm going away for the weekend, but will check the RIM out when I get home. I saw that little box in the trunk but I don't like to touch anything that I don't know what is, I don't want to break anything that's not broke. I don't hear any clicking when I try it with the car not running. I can't thank you enough for helping me, Thank You!

I checked the RIM in the trunk and it's pluged in and looks like a good clean connection. Could there be a wire problem in the door? I looked at the wires in the door jam and they look good, I didn't see any bare wires. I wonder if I should take the door panel off and look at the wires there?

The solenoid itself that actuates the door is probably bad . I would check that .

I replaced the switch on the door and also the solenoide. I bought them both used! I checked the solenoide but didn't know how to check the switch on the door since there are 5 wires coming out of that. I have'nt taken the door panel off to see if there is something going on in there, is that something I should do?
