Hi, I'm having a little problem. I totaled my '92 Honda Prelude Type S AUTOMATIC (stock engine was a F22A1) in October of last year. I have had nothing but trouble with it since then. I have gotten a new radiator, new frame support, new body kit, new distributor, new ac, new battery, new battery connectors, all new fluids, new engine, etc..etc...

My problem is with my engine. This year I purchased a new engine from a company near me. I told them that I wanted a H22A1 for a 97-01 Prelude installed in my car. They acknowledged this and 2 months later (YES TWO WHOLE MONTHS), I got a call from them telling me that they received the wrong engine in and we had to wait for another. Already impatient, they called a week later and said that my engine came in, but again it was the wrong one. They told me that this new engine was better than my old one because it was V-TEC and they would throw in aftermarket headers as well. Being a girl, I said Okay. They installed it. Keep in mind I signed nothing. A week later a fellow luder was over at my house, he told me that they installed a F22B1 which was made mostly for Honda Accords and was a downgrade from what I had before. I was furious. I called them and they told me that in the beginning I ordered a F22B1. I don't know how I would have done that. I told them a H22A1. The guy on the phone said that they do not make H22A1's for automatics. That's what I'm wondering...Do they? I want to be able to call them and dispute them. I am trying to take them to court. I paid $3,100 for my entire install (labor and engine) and I feel I was greatly ripped off.

If you have any suggestions for me or you could answer my question. I would appreciate it.

Here's some specs on both engines.

Engine:f22a1
Hp:125
Tq:137
Displacement:2156cc
Compression:8.8:1
Valvetrain:SOHC, NON VTEC

Engine:f22b1
Hp:145
Tq:147
Displacement:2156cc
Compression:8.8:1
Valvetrain:SOHC, VTEC

You've got a more powerful engine now but $3100 seems like a lot. Doesn't it feel any faster? 20 more horses and 10 more lbs or torque should be noticable.

The h22a1 came in 4th gen Ludes, which only came with 5 speed manuals. 5th gen ludes came with the h22a4, and auto trans was available for those. I don't know if an auto trans from an h22a4 will fit on an h22a1. I don't see why not.
